I thought this device was used to get video from your dvr to an ipad etc.  Why do you need a bigger hard drive for it ?

The GenieGo (nomad) has 16gb of storage. It can only transfer to your devices recordings you already have transcoded. Depending on your viewing habits, 16gb might be sufficient. But if you are using all five devices and want to convert a number of recordings, you might need more than the built in storage.

You don't need to add anything.  It has some internal memory that will store transcoded programs temporarily.

You dont necessarily need a bigger drive. It comes with 16GB internal memory, you can add more memory via its USB if you like, but you don't have to. I personally don't see the need for extra memory, but there are others that do
