Buy

not too good as it turns out. the HR44 seen the drive right away and formated it with no trouble at all. but, every 30 minutes or so the screen would freeze then go to blank. i would have to hit the back button on the remote to go bak to the channel i was on. i also tried recording a program overnight with the DVR turned off same results, it froze after 30 minutes. any idea what is causing this? i have switched back to the internal drive till i can figure out what is going on.

Buy this and you should have no problems.

I found a few different enclosures (with different internal controllers) cannot sustain for long read/write I/O. Found that during tests while enclosures has been connected to PC.

I would recommend to test your setup on PC: format the drive (NTFS, etc) and make a copy of big files to it/from it, sizes should be bigger as you could find - a few GB would be good test.

I really doubt that you'll have any problems with the TT dock, but if you do, you probably have a problem with the HDD.  Usually, it's the external device that causes these problems, but you never know for sure.

just don't hesitate to spend some time for testing your EHDD (dock+drive) on a PC before use it for DVR and you should have no unpleasant surprises later

My only caveat with the Thermalake dock was that the LED lights were so darn bright!  $0.01 worth of Duct Tape fixed that nicely.

I found a positive moment of the bright blue LED: it's helping me locating in a dark room :)

Haha, I used electrical tape myself. I'm into the all-black look.

Been using this Rosewill enclosure that I bought when it was just $19.99 with this 3TB Seagate drive when it was just $89.99. And it's been flawless. All you have to do is update the Rosewill firmware here. And it will be perfect.
