There's no way DirecTV is ever going to add this channel if they haven't already.  There's no point in even bothering.  Just switch to Dish if you want it.

What makes you think DirecTV will change their mind?  They didn't pick it up last season, name me one sports channel they have waited over a year to finally pick up.

Pac12 may bow to pressure from fans over exorbitant demands and offer directv a deal they cannot refuse.

And you said "never".

An easy solution to bandwidth would be to carry the main channel in HD and the regional channels in SD, just like Oceanic Time Warner is doing.

That would be terrible. Main in Hi Definition with game only for the others would be far better. The best solution IMHO is main network and regionals available to anyone via a a la cart pricing, and the main one available in the sports pack.

It depends on early slate of games that the network picks. Last year and this year, they have picked some stinkers on paper and that is partially why D hasnt picked it up yet. Now if they picked up some top games, the story would of been different.

wasn't Versus just the rebranded OLN, which was already on DirecTV?

Perhaps, but when Versus asked for too much when re-negotiating, DirecTV told them to pound sand and eliminated the channel from their lineup.  I forgot how long Versus was off of DirecTV, but it's back now.

I think the PAC 12 network will be on DirecTV in time for the start of the 2014 football season, which will coincide with the activation of D14 and the launch of the SEC network.

I am holding out hope that Pac 12 and DirecTV work out some sort of agreement. I had to call in on some questions I had in regards my bill and ended up being transferred to the retention/cancelation dept.  The CSR was very friendly and we started chatting and I asked her about Pac 12 Networks.  She stated they receive calls daily about people wanting the channel(s).  She had all her talking points prepared and went over them all with me.  My take away from this is/was their are still many customers wanting Pac 12 Networks despite what some may say on DBSTalk it s a channel many customers want and haven't been afraid to voice that to DirecTV via phone/email/Twitter/Facebook.  DirecTV knows customers want it and Pac12 knows they really need DirecTV for a long term success with many of the sports bras/casinos.  Hopefully both sides can sit down and try to work things out.

Add to the lack of the PAC 12 Net, that  D* still need to sign to carry the new upstart FS1 Net.

If neither gets done, college football fans will leave DIRECTV in droves.

How many in these droves of which you speak? Are we talking a few thousand, tens of thousands, hundreds, millions??

Don't forget that still a lot of those conference games will be available outside those two niche networks, enough to satisfy many true blue football fans. Though not enough to satisfy the true blue diehard alumni of those schools.

Those who follow the Big 12, Pac 12, and Conference USA will be leading the exodus. Two-three games will be carried by FS1 every Saturday from those conferences.  I'd hardly call it a "niche" channel.

Call it what you will.

So, how big is the exodus going to be? How big are your droves?

and I already said the die hard alums won't be happy till it's added.

Um, DirecTV is cheap and refuses to add the Pac 12 Network, so that would be one red flag right there.  They're playing hardball with new channels and pissing off loyal customers.  Not a good business strategy.

Way better than letting costs spiral out of control and causing lots of cancellations due to high cost of subscribing.

Wrong, subs will leave when they don't get the channels they want.  It's simple, if they don't pick up the channels that have the college football games that loyal fans want to see, then those people will go elsewhere to get those channels and DirecTV needs to realize that.  The other people that don't want the extra cost can suck it up and switch, there will be fewer people that do that than switch because they can't get their team on TV.  DirecTV is "the sports leader" right?  I guess it's time for them to make good on that slogan or else they will have a rude awakening.

I am certain DIRECTV is aware of all sides of the equation, and has experts in house to run all manner of calculations.

Yet you've not even ball parked the exodus you expect.....

Large enough that DirecTV will have to either add the channels, or give up on being called the sports leader.

I'm a huge PAC-12 and Blazers fan. I switched FROM Frontier which carries both of these channels. I don't think your number will be large enough to move the pendulum. The only way to try to control programming costs is for the distributors to take a stand and not give in to the unrealistic demands by the programmers.

FS1 is a changing channel, not a new channel. This is FUD.

Actually, after a couple of minutes searching, it seems FS1 could be an issue for DIRECTV.

http://www.bloomberg...rand-names.html

Especially since it seems Fox wants more money to carry FS1.

http://www.fiercecab...-fs1/2013-07-15

This article says they haven't yet signed with DIRECTV so it's certainly not a done deal.

It certainly doesn't rise to level of FUD.  However, since you didn't research before calling someone's post FUD, one could argue your post is FUD.  I wouldn't but the argument could be made.  I'm just sayin'  :)

Since it costs 1.66¢ to produce a penny, my 2¢ worth is really 3.32¢ worth.  That 3.32¢ is my own and not the 3.32¢ of DIRECTV, Dish, or anyone else for that matter.
