Anyone know why GenieGo would want to send push notifications in iOS? I left it enabled, but the app cannot run in the background, so why would it have push? I would love it if it would send me a push notification when a recording is ready to download, but it can't do that, so...

Actually, that is what the push notifications are for. The software will tell you when a recording is finished being transcoded.

But how can it do that when it cannot run in the background in iOS? I've never seen a push notification from it. If you switch away from the app to any other app, even for a few seconds, it has to log in again like it was started cold.

Must be something new with GenieGo. I was reading a book in my Kindle App when I received a notification that a show that was transcoding and then being copied to my iPad had completed. Opened up GenieGo (no login required) and the show was now on my iPad.

However, I had four shows from last night I wanted copied to my iPad. It seems that I now receive a notification after each show is copied and the next show didn't starting copying until after I acknowledged the pop-up. I used to be able to get two shows copied to my IPad during my shower (sometimes three); today I only had one copied. Not a good trade-off IMHO.

It may be an unsupported feature, ATM. I've only been running this client a few days, but the app appears to run in the background here. I enabled GenieGo notifications in iOS settings, and as long as I don't close it, I can put my iPhone 4 in standby or run another app, and it notifies me when new files have been downloaded. I'm running iOS 7, but I'm told it works the same in iOS 6 by others.

It works nicely on my Macs. I don't pay enough attention to my iPad to notice it.

Apps don't have to be open to send you push notifications they might use the Apple Push Notification Service.

Well, I set a show to download to my iPad last night and I am still waiting for the push notification,  It is done preparing, by the way, as I checked it on my iPhone.

It's prob just a bug.

Push notifications are for this very reason to send you notifications when the app isn't running. Apple runs a server your phone and iPad keep a constant connection to this apple server for apps to send notifications when they aren't open.
