we're no longer in need of our home phone line and would like to port it with our cell service.  this will disconnect the home phone line.  will the dvr's work without the phone line?  our wireless internet is capped at 20gb/month.  this is why the dvr's have never used the internet option.

There is no longer a requirement for a hard wired phone line.

If you are connected to the net you can order movies there or call in on your cell phone and order them.

I have 3 receivers, 2 are HDDVRs and one is HD receiver. None have been connected since 2009. No problems.

update.....called directv, no phone line is required.  it would mean you'd have to order pay per view over a cell phone and instead using our remote.

Phone line is not required for anything, even if the contract says otherwise!

I can also confirm that a phone line is not needed for Sunday ticket. They are able to black out games without it.

It is required for ordering PPV through the remote if there is no Internet connection. Certainly not worth keeping a land line for though.

I think internet or phone line is also needed for certian automatic "call-backs" of other things as well like collection of viewing statistics (if you opt in from your online account) and other receiver usage data, reporting signal strength levels so DIRECTV can alert you if a service call is necessary for dish realignment, etc.

But participation in these are voluntary, not mandatory.

is only "required" if you want to order via remote, as you can now order via text, website, smartphone app with no charge.

You don't need a phone line attached to order via onscreen Guide; but you have to then have internet connected.

Yeah, but is not a "requirement" which is the point here   :bang

It must be your point, then!  !rolling

My point is to be accurate in correcting your statement. No need to knock your head over it!  :coolglass

Makes you wonder why they don't revise the TOS to reflect modern day realities.

Well it has changed to the fact that now includes Internet as a "responding" method

It doesn't anymore.  BUT it does say that if DirecTV suspects that all receivers are not located at the "service address" they can investigate and if they find that all the receivers aren't there they will charge you full price for each receiver (no "mirroring").

I see is still mentions land based telphone line, but I see they have now added land based internet connection as well:

For optimal performance of your Receiving Equipment, including ordering with your remote control or receiving certain Services, your equipment must be directly connected to the same land-based telephone line or internet connection. If you add Service on additional TVs, you may purchase a separate subscription for each additional TV, or, if all your equipment is continuously connected to the same land-based telephone line, we can “mirror” programming to your additional TVs and charge you only the fee amount described in Section 2. You agree to provide true and accurate information about the location of your equipment. If we detect that any equipment is not regularly connected to a land-based telephone line or internet connection, we may investigate and, if it is determined that the equipment is not at the location identified on your account, we may disconnect the equipment or charge you the full programming subscription price for the equipment.
