If I order an upgrade to my HR20-700, what am I most likely to receive for self install from Directv?

If you demand a Genie, and agree with them on terms, you'll receive either an HR34 or an HR44.

The only upgrade available is really a Genie.  All the HR2x models are considered the same by Directv.  If you have a failing HR20, they will replace it for at most $20S&H if you dont have the protection plan, but there is no guarantee what HR2x model you will get as a replacement.

there is no way to "upgrade" from an HR2x to an HR2x via DirecTV.

Here’s to the crazy ones.
The misfits. The rebels.
The the troublemakers.
The round pegs in the square holes.

The ones who see things different.
They’re not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status quo.

Yes, you can't order an upgrade. If you order another DVR, intending to return your current DVR, you will get anything from an HR21 to an HR24.
