I was talking to the Dish folks at an event the other day and mentioned that while saying you have a 2TB drive is all nice it is not all usable by the end user so it really had no meaning.  I asked why they did not say you could record over 1000 30 minute shows, or something like that.  They said because of lawyers etc.. that all that had to happen is one person  not get 1000 shows and a lawsuit happens

So I created a pinterest board

I am not quite at 1000 but should be able to make it with no issues anyone have more shows

Variable based on MPEG2 or 4 or OTA.

"Belligerent and numerous."

Sometimes I update the Dish Network FAQ

AT200, Hopper & 360 via HDMI to Onkyo 505 to basement 42" Westy, Hopper via Comp-over-Cat5 to living room 42" Vizio with a Roku 3, Joey to Toshiba 32" LCD with a Logitech Revue. You want fries with that? Pull up to the 2nd window.

Following Rasputin's thoughts... it also depends on 1080i vs 720p and the kind of content recorded...  so there are just too many variables to really state how many shows one might be able to record with the available space.

Well it turns out they say

http://www.dish.com/...6Q&gclsrc=aw.ds

RECORD 2X AS MANY SHOWS.

Only with the Hopper™, you can record and store up to 2,000 hours of your favorite shows - that's the most storage capacity of any DVR in the industry, so you can record even more of your favorite programs.

So 2000 hours would be either 2000 1 hr shows or 4,000 half hour shows, I was just wondering what people are seeing in real life.

I am thinking more along the line of 1,000-1500 shows dfor most people which really is quite a few!

For sure, I know (and DIRT supported that in old thread here) 622/722 models can hold up to 1000 recordings; technically speaking, names for PPV starting with number 9000 [es9000], while regular recordings from 8000 [es8000].

Not sure if the file names convention changed for 922/813/913 models.

Currently I have 506 shows recorded, some half hour, some hour, and some longer...up to 6 hours long.  Shows I have used 77% of the drive.  And I don't use PTAT feature.  My Hopper is over a year old, and I've loved it!  No issues at all.

keep piling up the number, soon we will know if the 1000 records limit still in charge
