Thumb Drive to transfer movies

Anyone try using a simple thumb drive just to transfer stuff between units?  My hopper is throwing the 855 error with either of my 2 EHDs that work fine with my other Hopper and I just moved 500+ shows to one EHD before the Hopper decided to stop transferring files?

it should be bigger then 40 GB, I did use SSD 120 GB sparingly
