If you are truly using your DVR to its full capabilities, by now you should have more than 6 of your favorite series set to record. So this "annoying popup" should no longer be an issue for you.  Are you actually still having this popup problem?

I started a thread in
DIRECTV DVR with TiVo Discussion I do not think my message are going thru the thread is  in
hr34 "to record episode press R on your remote control" popup Part 2  it is not showing up as New could you tell me should it say new ?

Already answered this for you in another thread ....

Press and hold the remote's INFO button for several seconds until the "System Information" display appears.  That will show you the DVR's current software version.  New updates are installed automatically when they become available for your specific DVR. 


HD DVRs: HR34-700; HR24-500; (2) HR20-700 + WD eSATA 1TB drive/Antec MX1 case; HR21-700; HR21-200 w/AM21
Receivers: H25-500 HD Receiver; H21-100 HD Receiver
Mobile Devices: Nomad

Sportsman, you are not he latest update. Do not worry about updates.

As for the pop up. If you have done what we told you, it should go away. If its not, then its a bug. Try just doing a reboot of your DVR by hitting the red button under the door on the front right side of your DVR.

As others have said, your DVR will get the software update when its turn comes around.   They are not all updated at the same time.  So just relax, and your DVR will update itself in the middle of the night while you're sleeping sometime in the next few weeks.
