I'll try it when I get my HR24. I have a few spare 3TB drives to try and a couple of 2TB drives to use if the 3TBs don't work. I was just trying to do some planning.

Officially still limited to 2TB.  There was one user however that reported a full 3TB drive being used by an HR24.  This may however be seen as a "bug" to DirecTV and "fixed" at a later date like OTA scanning on a Genie so be careful.

I placed the order for an HD DVR to replace one of my H25s today. What are my odds of getting an HR24 instead of one of the older models?

It's coming via FedEx so I don't think talking to him will help.

That will come tomorrow. I need to move some files around on my NAS to free up the 3TB drive. It should finish in the wee hours of the morning.

Well the 3TB drive didn't work on the HR24. It's a new enclosure and cable so I want to use it on my HR44 before calling it a failure. The error, if it matters, was a 775.

If your HR44 is a -500 put some sort of partition on the drive before trying.  For some reason the HR44-500 won't use a completely blank drive.  I verified this a couple of weekends ago on my HR44-500 after someone else reported it in another thread.

It worked perfectly with my HR44-500. I don't know if it used all 3TB, but it is definitely using my eSATA. I had been using this with Ubuntu and deleted the partitions there before trying to use it. That may be why it just worked. I guess now I need to get another enclosure to use with a 2TB drive for my HR24.

Yeah, it probably worked because there was already a "disk label" on it, good news.  There's no reason to doubt that it's using all 3TB.

If you'll have time and willing to: I would try it on HR24 after using for HR44; I would check partition's size in Ubuntu

I received my new esata dock today. The 2TB drive worked straight away. I'll try the 3TB drive from the HR44 this weekend just to see.
