I've had my 44 for a couple of weeks now and, for the most part, really enjoy it. But, from the start, I've had VOD download problems. To begin, I would occasionally get an error message trying to record something from VOD telling me that the connection had been interrupted and it would try again later. After a short while I decided this wasn't a big deal since it always managed, eventually, to download the content and I didn't care that much that it took quite a while (I've got a pretty slow DSL so slow downloads are pretty much the norm here). But several downloads have had glitches where the recording stops and you have to rewind a bit and then fast forward through the glitch to resume playing (missing a bit of the recording) - a problem I never had downloading VOD content to my HR24. And tonight an episode of Showtime's "Six Feet Under" simply stopped at 41 minutes into it, giving me the option to save or delete. I tried several things to get past that 41 minute mark - rewinding a bit when I resumed it and then fast forwarding, starting the recording again from the beginning and fast forwarding. All of them ended at 41 minutes with the option of save or delete. So I downloaded it from my HR24 which gives me the option of a faster download at 720p (the 44 doesn't give me this option). This recording played perfectly.

So, my question is: do VOD downloads to the HR44 tend to be buggy in this way? I probably should try downloading the show to my 24 at the higher quality speed to see if it's an issue with the higher quality download vs. the faster download. But, before trying that, I just wanted to see if this issue seemed familiar to any of you with 44s out there.

I've not seen any hr44 specific Video On Demand issues myself. Some may be a general glitch that can hit any recording if any kind and some maybe a speed issue.

How is your system connected to the Internet? What other units do you have and how does Whole Home Service work for you in general?

System is connected to the internet with an Ethernet cable and whole home has worked flawlessly. Other than the 44 and the 24 I just have a genie mini.

I haven't seen any real problems related to the '44. I am on a very slow connection, so I generally let them go overnight.

I downloaded the episode that I had the trouble with to my 44 again today and it played past the point where it stopped in the earlier download. So it looks like this was just a glitch with that download. Still, can't help but notice that I get occasional glitches (as described in my original post) with downloads to my 44, but never with downloads to my 24. Can't help but think that it may have something to do with the occasional interruptions of the download to the 44. Could that cause the glitches I've been seeing?

Yes, it could be, but it's hard to say definitively. Certainly interruptions to your connection during a download could be a cause that you just didn't happen to experience on the other DVR.
