What model of receiver do you have?

In the HR24,

Menu, Settings, Display, Preferences, turn Scrolling Effects to OFF

The guide should be super fast then.

Two reboots back to back should also be done. Could have bad guide data slowing then down.

Hmmm, you probably mean DirecTV On Demand as none of the DirecTV DVRs have Netflix

What are you accessing NF on?  Different streaming devices cause NF downloads to be slower or faster.  Can't blame your router or internet for that, at least in my case.  I use only BD players as streaming devices and I see differences in loading times that I know have not been caused by my router or speed (60 down).

If none of the above work, mostly scrolling effects, clear the NVRAM.

Do this by tuning to channel one.

Press Red, Red, Blue, Blue, Yellow, Green.

A message in the lower left (in white font over the white DirecTV logo) should state "NVRAM cleared" If all went well.

I tried this and the message read "English".  That's it.  Tried it twice.

It is a little bit tricky to do.

If you get the bonk sound you are starting the procedure too early.

The button presses need to be done fairly quickly or you will get the message "English".

Note that the message is hard to see since it shows up in an area where writing already is on the screen.

It took me 6 times to get it the first time I had success.

I started using a 24-500 that was being used as a server for months and found it to be quite screwed up.  Remote wouldn't work correctly, all kinds of mildly wacky things happening.  Did what I always do when this happens, went to the Systems window and did a Restart, then did the same thing as soon as it was done rebooting.  All the problems gone.  Seems to work every time for me.

We put the colored buttons thing to rest a while ago.  Surprised to see it resurfacing again.

Simply put, the Guide data seems to cause many problems from time to time and flushing the Guide usually clears up the problems. This isn't the first time I've written this suggestion.  If you have problems that you don't understand, try it.

Thanks Rich, I have done that numerous times in the past as well.  I was just curious if the Red, Blue, etc would add more speed.  I had done the NVRAM in the past and it did work.  So out of curiosity, I did it again and got that English message.  This just made me wonder if the software updates to my Genie made NVRAM clearing option disappear.

You know many people have said simply tuning to channel 1 for more than 30 seconds is all that needs to happen. No need to jump through the button presses hoops. I not sure, but some have had success with just that.

I will try that too, Inka!  I just dislike how slow my HR34 Genie is compared to other receivers.  I don't believe it is extraordinarily slow, just by comparison.  It is always fun to test out new theories to see what works and what does not!

That whole NVRAM thing never worked for me, but I've never really experienced unexpected slowness that flushing the Guide didn't fix.  I did like pushing the buttons and getting the correct answer, but it never affected the speed of my HRs.  I was playing with my last 20-700, not connected on MRV, and it's still quick and reliable.  Hadn't touched it in months.
