I know many of you agree with the above statement, but NHLN does do some things right.  Tonight they are televising one of the first preseason games Jets and Capitals.  Then tomorrow evening on NHLN Alternate, the Flyers and Leafs in London, Ontario.

My guide is also showing Penguins @ Blue Jackets Sunday at 6pm eastern on NHLN channel 215.

And Monday 7pm Bruins @ Canadiens followed by Sharks @ Canucks at 10pm eastern

And Tuesday Rangers @ Flyers.

And I stopped there.

Just checking the difference in price, in Canada and the U.S. for NHL Center Ice:

Directv:    $159.00  U.S. Dollars

Shaw Direct:   $207.00 Canadian Dollars.

23% more expensive in Canada.

At today's exchange rate, $159 US is $164.42 Canadian.

(and I think your % calculation might be wrong)

Close enough!  Still over 20% more expensive in Canada.

You don't really need Sunday ticket up there.  They have all of the local channels in all regions.  They have NFL rights and a great number of the games are already on there.  They have east and west locals from Seattle and Detroit, as well.  With Canada having 5 time zones, each time zone covers games closest to them.

With their usual distorted picture and endless crawl telling us what we're watching. Would it kill them to turn off that crawl during a live game?

Is the NHL network no longer included when subscribingto the Center Ice package?  I KNOW I don't get the NHL channel in my base package but I've always has it since we subscribed to the CI package.  This year it's gone and when I ask the CSR's they say it was never included with CI.

I do, I offer a complete and utter retraction. The imputation was totally without basis in fact, and was in no way fair comment, and was motivated purely by malice, and I deeply regret any distress that my comments may have caused you, or your family, and I hereby undertake not to repeat any such slander at any time in the future.

From http://support.direc...WQvM1NvOGhxQWw=

Does DIRECTV carry the NHL Network? Is it available HD?

During the NHL season, the NHL Network (Channel 215) is included in your subscription to NHL CENTER ICE. In the off-season, you'll need to subscribe to a package that includes the NHL Network - ULTIMATE or above. Learn more at directv.com/packages.

The operative phrase "during the NHL season". So once the season starts, you should be good to go.

Sunday night here, in Maine, I got the Columbus/Pittsburgh game but the Toronto game was blacked out.

I wonder if the game was blacked out in Philly last night? My NHL Net has not been turned on so I'm not aware. I used alternate means and the LeafsTV and CSN feed were available to me and in HD to boot... Would have used my one Fios receiver but it is in another location.

see my post above.

I tried to cut a deal with them, for Center Ice.  They where trying to find other discounts to make up the difference.  I was told to contact them on October 10th.  I guess that's when CI's free preview ends.

You did better than I did dtrell =P.  I got $50 retention credit off the $160 price.  I also already have lots of other credits, but I was hoping for half price like you got.  They were not really cutting any deals on CI and were trying to steer me towards Sunday Ticket instead.  I guess I could have waited until after the free Center Ice preview but I didn't want to call back.

My contract ends October 28th so I'm planning to call back then and get a full hardware refresh and other credits if I re-up for another 2 years.

When does NHL Network renew its contract with Directv? I'm hoping they can get the channel back down to the Extra Package because its pretty much on a package with almost no value to an HD only viewer. Like its a 7 dollar increase and NHL Network, Encore, Encore Action, Movie Channel and Univision Deportes being the only HD channels.

Does anyone know if the NHLN is included as part of the NHLCI free preview?

The channel was added OCT 2007 and I do not think the contract has renewed yet.    So it should be up for renewal in the next few years.

I doubt the NHL Network is moved to a lower package. Why would D* pay a rate increase and also agree to a higher number of subs for a channel with very limited viewership? Not very good business sense.
