Livestream launches on Roku, brings real-time broadcasts to the platform

Livestream may have been stepping out of its comfort zone with the introduction of hardware tailored for prosumers. That being said, the company's still working hard on expanding its bread and butter: video streaming -- and what better way to do so than by being available on Roku, a streaming platform that's thriving in more ways than one.

Today, the Livestream channel will be making its debut on the tiny player, giving viewers access to a vast amount of internet-based programming. Of course, this includes live (and archived) sporting events, concerts, red carpets and broadcasts from more than 60 local US news stations.

"For us, connected TVs was the next piece of the puzzle," Livestream CEO Max Haot told us, adding that coming to the Roku is only the start of what he believes "will be many future developments on bringing Livestream to living rooms worldwide."

Checked last night and sure enough, Livestream is available in the Roku Store. Select it, enter your Roku PIN and it will install. Streams live news from stations all over the country. Also a number of TV series available.

Very nice App. Hope they add more local news broadcasts. Would like to see some from my old stomping grounds, Florida.

Um, like WOW! Really?

I can see the DMA constraints evaporating even as we speak (talk?).

Oops, here comes the NAB with the FCC tugging behind on a leash.

The only thing with these live feeds is during a break me has to look at a boring "We will be right back." Who wants that.

You could always turn to the DogTV channel for those 2 or 3 minutes.

So far, not impressed...watched WTOP  around 10:30pm, time on news clock was 5-something. Not "live" and not ready for prime time. Lots of pixelation, freezes. :(

The feeds for me have very little pixelation after about 15 seconds in.  It gets better when the Roku figures out your connection.  (Mine is hardwired.)

I would. To me live means nothing is change. Live as how he station is airing it's programming. To me this looks like a bunch of recordings.

If you subscribe to Center Ice or MLB Extra Innings, via DirecTV, you get all the commercials. If you subscribe to Game Center or MLB-TV via Internet they get cut out and you get the commercial screen. Both use the same feed. Funny how it is OK for one and not the other.

Sounds yo me like you're seeing the Live Feed from the studio before the commercials are inserted and sent to the transmitter..  Sort of like the  national network feeds on old C-Band systems.
