It looks like the networks are running out of original ideas. Any ideas?

The premier was a ratings disaster. At 10 pm a network has to appeal to the 50+ group as much as to the demo. About 1 million 50+ viewers disappeared by 10:30 and as I noted in the ratings thread, I think they were hoping for the ghost of Raymond Burr.

I haven't watched my recording yet and may never as it is already a cancellation candidate as "Ironside" 2013 was lowest rated fall drama premier for NBC, which is saying a lot.

They should do a Perry Mason reboot along with Ironside.

Considering the fact that the show only has one thing in common with the original, and that one thing is the name of the show, I'm not surprised it isn't getting traction.  Should have been expected.

Only one thing? I'll take name and wheelchair bound detective for two Alex :ewww:

Haven't watched it yet didn't expect it would live up to the original but tossed it in a series record to start.

I didn't realize that there was some controversy (though there can be controversy about anything, probably even Sunrise Earth) with this one, that they cast someone that isn't a paraplegic.

That would be a riculous requiirement, especially since the story involves significant flashbacks to Ironside prior to his injury.

I don't want to say that all old people are racist but I am assuming that the fact that the lead actor is black is probably not all that acceptable for many folks old enough to remember the original and expecting nostalgia. If only they knew what Raymond Burr was really like back then.

I gave it a chance, but it lived up to the rep the critics had already branded it with. Gone from my DVR, which is pretty liberating, actually. He's a good and appealing actor, just doesn't have much to work with here.

It's usually safe to talk honestly and openly with people because they typically are not really listening anyway.

Some shows take episodes to fill in on how things got to be the way they are. Others do it in the first. Ironside choose the latter, but it took too much time away from the main plot that was pretty good.

So judgement is on hiatus until the end of next week episode.

The office windows was a lot better in the original. While they carry over the arch, they lack character by being very bland.

Didn't surprise me Ironside would get the boot.   Shame though about "Welcome To The Family" has it was filled with some pretty good names and was no where near as bad as some of the other crap out there.

I watched a few minutes and tossed it. For this troglodyte, the Burr character and his cadence particularly, were completely missing. And I think using a very good actor who's other than older, slower and white was a mistake. At least for some of us who recall the originals.

I agree.  But I guess it works sometimes - see Battlestar Galactica.  I was appalled Starbuck was going to be female.  But apparently, she was a huge hit!  I actually didn't even watch, just for that reason.

Until they ruined it with that ending.  I'd only suggest BSG to someone I wanted to make angry and waste their time.

I agree the ending stunk. But the first two season were awesome IMO.
