My HR23 stops responding to the remote.  The only solution I've found is to reboot and remote function is restored.  It happens several times a week.  Why?

A couple of things to try.

Run the System Test and see if it comes up with any errors and list them here.

Menu, Settings, Info and Test, Run System Test

Try this also the next time it stops responding.

Use your TV remote and turn the TV to OFF. Then use the DTV remote and press the Channel Up button and see if the light on the face of the HR23 blinks each time you press the button. If it does, turn the TV back on and see if the channel is different than it was when you started.

I ran a system test and, interestingly, it said the internet isn't connected.  In fact, it is.  No other error indicated.  This problem started once I had a Genie installed with three clients with my existing HR23 and HR21.  Whole Home seems to be working well.  I did have to reset Genie once because my three clients quit working.  The reboot brought them back.  I have no idea if any of this is related to my HR23 remote problem.

NO the HR23 is just a POC.

Yours just sounds worse. I would just call Directv and get it replaced!

I located a RF capable remote and programmed it this morning.  I'm interested to see if it solves the problem.

The remote hasn't frozen since I switched to RF.  Fingers crossed.

Awesome, let's hope it stays this way…

It could be (or not). When the DVR stops responding to the remote, that typically means it is busy trying to do other tasks. But then responding to the remote should be a priority task. It's just like when you get a beachball spinning on your computer while it completes somthing that takes a long time or is giving it trouble. Constantly trying to reconnect to the internet could, conceivably, interrupt response to the remote, especially if the code is not written intelligently (ahem!). Rebooting stops old tasks that might be churning, so response is restored to new tasks.

It's usually safe to talk honestly and openly with people because they typically are not really listening anyway.
