One more and done. It is time they put this thing out of its misery. I liked the early seasons as it was fresh and brash and sexy and kicked ass. And I basically like Duchovny and Natasha is awesome eye candy. Though she couldn't act her way out of a papier mache douchebag.

But after it kept sinking grosser and grosser for "laughs" in desperation since they ran out of ideas, and stuck us with endless scenes with that awful daughter and the moronic Brit rocker, yuck. It truly wrecked upon the rocks. It moved from a gritty, pornographic tragi-comedy novel about LA life to an infantile comic book about bestiality and dick jokes. The producers truly lost control of this beast long ago. And Duch is just cashing checks he thought were done since they cancelled X-Files.

It was good at first.

It definitely went down hill fast with the story lines. I stopped watching it long ago.

IMO, the show went from 'Californication' to "Calipornication". I lost interest when the storyline became forced and jokes gratuitous.

I stopped at season 5, but I have 6 on my DVR. Like when Weeds was canceled, I'll catch up and watch the final season.

Wow, we will never know what happen to Hank and  Karen.  I thought that last season was good, but I almost stopped at season 3.  Ehh, more room on the dvr then.

There's still one season left starting in April.

The new season starts in January. Once it's over that will be it. I'm sure they'll wrap it up nicely considering they know it's canceled.

Yeah, the producers even promised a tidy wrapup by the end of the season, which means a Hank & Karen hookup and Charlie and Marcy as well, though I cannot STAND Pamela Adlon.

The show was at its best when they stuck to being hardass on showbiz and all the sexual politics involved. Hank as dark anti-hero writer was fine and the more realistic the show to today's Hollywood the better. But they kept getting sidetracked in later seasons into cartoonish and bizarre improbabilities--that whole Brit rockstar thing was nothing but infantile and annoying. Like something out of Mork and Mindy. Right into the weeds.

But maybe in this last season they'll get back to what they did best: Hollywood verite noir and hot girls looking for Mr. Goodbar.

I thought it had its last season already. Wasn't that last episode like a wrap up and a drive into the sunset?

I think they didn't know when they shot it, so they did a kind of hybrid wrapup show to work as either a season or series ender.

Lots of shows wrapping up on Showtime. Will be interestign to see what it is replaced with. I agree with the posts above this show was great when it first started but fizzeled fast.

I can't disagree about the downhill trajectory, other than I think it really sucked the worst in season 2 and 3. This last one was kind of a stinker as well, the Brit rocker was as boring and cliched as you can get. And the fact that they thought any of that was authentic or accurate or reflected what that life or those sorts of people are like in any way still gives me the douche chills. I am embarrased for their hamhanded amateurness in how poorly that was imagined.

When this started I was ready to crown Tom Kapinsky (?) or whatever his name is as the new Chuck Lorre. The scripts the first year were beyond brilliant, and I considered it the funniest show on TV. "Duch", as Maruuk calls him, is a pretty funny guy himself. It was his droll sense of humor that lightened X-Files just perfectly, and helped make Mulder and Scully as iconic as they became.

But yeah, they ran out of gas. I fear the last season will be all fumes.

But there are real bright spots in this show you get nowhere else, and that is enough for me to stay 'til the bitter end. But it's time. I think the Charlie character is a standout, but I can't ever look at that guy without seeing Curley from his 3 Stooges movie. And I love the relationship between Charlie and Hank.

Natasha wore out her welcome for me; I used to think she was hot, but, nuh-uh. I would leave a chick like that. I never felt the daughter was cast very well, and her acting makes Natasha look like Olivier.

Great points, the show definitely had its brilliant and heady moments, saying things and doing things you thought they couldn't ever say or do on TV. I too thought Natasha was hot, but it's like living with a gorgeous woman for too long, they can get sooooo tiresome and the looks start to be irrelevant compared to the crap they heap on you! Her rules and her endless rejections and mind games--gimme a break! Yes, the daughter wasn't just hideously ugly, she couldn't act either. What genius cast her??

Agree, the Charlie/Hank friendship was the best thing in the show. And for me, the Hollywood insider stuff rocked, until they got just plain silly with it and it lost all credibility. The Hank character works as a true Hollywood alcoholic hustler, egocentric, flawed to the bone, and entertaining and horny as hell. There are plenty just like him down there. He was an authentic character. Until they turned him into a cartoon character surrounded by other toons. They need to leave Hank dead drunk and magnificently laid on some hot bimbo's ravaged bed in Malibu as his latest script deadline gets ignored. While Natasha and her a-hole daughter go back to NY forever. That's my ending and I'm sticking to it.

You have expanded on my Natasha disinterest perfectly.

And yeah, the burning question I've had for the last few seasons is "Why, Hank. Why bother? Get out! Find someone better." I really do not care if there is a happy ending with Natasha, in fact I think the only real happy ending for Hank is to walk away.

Pamela Adlon? I kind of like her. I'd probably leave her too, though. They have her saying a lot of stupid things; I think they just don't know how to write for her. She's wasted on this show, and is much better on Louie.

And "Ouch!" Hideous is a little much. The daughter one of those girls that's cute until she's 17, then goes through an awkward stage. In her case, VERY awkward. Think Meg Ryan, or Marg Helgenberger, or Emily VanCamp. Jodie Foster. All of them were much more attractive at 30 than they were at 19. At 20, you wonder if there is even hope for them, and then at some point they just blossom. Helgenberger is like 55 and still hasn't really hit the wall, but she got noticeably hotter every day up until about 50, and she still rocks a pair of capri pants like nobody's business.

So that girl has a chance to become sort of a swan, or at least better-looking than she is currently. But she's going to have to realize that the baby talk might have been cute when she was 11, but its not cute at all when that is your acting technique and you're 20. Baby talk is for babies that can't yet talk.

The core problem with the show is that the producer seems to want to SAVE Hank, which in his terms means end up with bee-yatch yenta Natty. But the audience also wants to save Hank, from HER. Because the audience has no fun when she's around, she is b-o-r-i-n-g. In fact, Hank is boring around her. The producer seems to think he's making Life with Father here, when in fact the show only works as Barfly.

Break out the SAVE HANK (from Natty) t-shirts!
