NFL announced today ESPN gets a wildcard playoff game & NBC gets a divisional playoff game.

No news on this "near" deal yet though.

is the local teams areas must have the game still in place? and how fast can they find room to air the game if needed?

I want CLTV / CLTV HD on direct tv.

Yep locals of the teams in the game still get OTA as well.

Wouldnt think they would have a problem getting someone to pick up a playoff game.

I'd bet the agreements are either already in place or will be well in advance on a contingency basis.

The only truly bad scenario for D* subs is if NFLST were to switch to Dish, right? Otherwise, if D* loses its exclusivity, it would seem to be because the NFL would go to some sort of PPV/HBO subscriber-like model, which in all likelihood means it would still be available to D* subs. It can't go to a Comcast or Cablevision - or any cable company, exclusively - because none of them are available nationwide. Doesn't that logic appear to make sense?

I think I just heard the same kind of posts about the SEC Channel.

The important bit in that article is that there doesn't seem to be anyone else interested in NFLST besides Directv, so a deal is pretty likely. Not something you need to worry about for another year, since the current deal goes through the 2014 season.

I'd listen to this guy. Based on that avatar he's an expert at close, on the verge and almost there. Now, if they go ahead, bring it home and actually close the deal, then he might be a little out of his element. ;)

Im just sayin it looks funny that a deal is "near" for 8 months.

Websters dictionary needs to change the definition of "near" then i guess.

The articles I read mentioned that control over the "digital rights" is one of the main remaining issues. While it was seemingly downplayed in said articles, I think that's a big deal and if true, a huge revelation.

Again, I have no idea on the veracity of those claims, but DirecTV retaining exclusive "traditional" broadcast rights with the digital rights possibly shared (by the NFL themselves no less for their NFL Now), sold elsewhere, retained by Directv exclusively, either for the length of the traditional terms or possibly shortened, or any of the previous with conditions that DirecTV open it up to everyone could all be in play.

I'm just speculating.

NFL has DirecTV by the shorts, so to speak. I would imagine that the digital rights were NOT part of the AT&T takeover exclusion and hence why it might still be in play, so to speak, for any possible scenario.

If DirecTV only gets traditional rights for $1.4b, I would consider it a good deal for the NFL, and a bad deal for DirecTV, but again, I don't think DirecTV has a choice and the NFL knows that.

What I read in these articles is that already high prices are about to go up even higher. I realize that's all part of it but they're starting to price me out of pay-TV service. I remember when my total subscription threshold was $50, which was not that long ago. Eventually that became $75, and now it's become $100. I won't raise it again. Once my bill consistently crosses over the $100 mark I'll be looking for alternatives. That will likely mean giving up some things I love, like Sunday Ticket, but at some point enough is enough!
