If DirecTV only gets traditional rights for $1.4b, I would consider it a good deal for the NFL, and a bad deal for DirecTV, but again, I don't think DirecTV has a choice and the NFL knows that.


Of course DirecTV has a choice. Same choice as the NFL. Sunday Ticket exists or it does not. The interest in Sunday Ticket from the other providers has dropped according to the articles I am reading, so it continues to exist only because DirecTV and the NFL wants it to be. Not sure how that gives leverage to either side.
