Ive noticed lately that while watching all these bowl games I see ESPN's audio randomly going from offset -1db to -4db. I know sometimes it will do it anyways with commercials, but Ive seen it happen in games a few times on the AVR display.

Just wondering if anyone else is noticing this.

ESPN has been a prime suspect for audio dropouts due to re-syncing of the audio for years...nothing new.  If you ever watch any ESPN on ABC events, you'll get the exact same thing as well.  As far as I have witnessed, it happens on every provider that carries ESPN....I have friends with Dish, UVerse, Comcrap, and they all get it as well...so to me it seems like an ESPN problem, but the luddites will blame Directv

Yeah, they seem to be doing something, and then they change to 2.0 for a lot of commercials.

Interesting. How are you measuring the dBs?

Its the offset thats in the signal. The AVR shows a change on the screen. Its normally -4db, but itll go -1, then back to -4 randomly. ESPN is the only channel I see do that.

It actually applies to the dialogue normalization and shouldnt just randomly change.

OK, thanks. Guess I'll have to mess with my AVR. Not sure where to look or if my Denon 1613 will show that.

When your Denon loses audio sync it should pop up on the receiver's display when it happens...it has on all the Denon's I have had over the last 4-5 years.

Ah, oh, dang. I have my HDMI direct to TV, and audio via optic.

It still digital audio to the Denon, it should still show it if there is a slight blip in the audio causing the receiver to re-sync to the audio

I see the issue too with ESPN. I have an older Denon AVR-2807 (2007 model) and it displays the offset on the front panel and the audio can cut out for a split second each time it changes.

Ah, good to know. I seldom look at the front panel, preferring the iPad app or onscreen messages (But my AVR doesn't handle the video from the Genie, so I have limited screen info. [Just volume]).

Its not even that, its just that I can hear it every time it happens.
