okay.. I convinced my wife to get a Genie.. so we get one.. but it won't hold the resolution.. it jumps from 1080I to 480p with out anyone touching anything.. I called D*.. they sent me a new one.. but the sound, the sound on the same channels is like some one talking out of a Campbells soup can.. to the point where I reinstalled the first unit.. I need some concrete advise .. NO RIPPING.. I am asking for out and out true suggestion.. all they to the point, where I wonder if I should just chuck it all back and go without the DVR.. or not a genie.. please give me advise of what to do with this unit..

If you call back and go through troubleshooting and it turns out that the issue cannot be corrected chances are you'll go to their case management team (since you just had a replacement sent out within the last few days) and the case management team will verify all the troubleshooting the previous agent did, send out a tech to take a look, and swap the unit out again if needed. Once the tech has completed the work order case management will provide you with a follow-up call to verify everything is working up to your expectations.

Are you changing the channel when the resolution changes?

While this may be true enough, a lot of trouble shooting can be done here. Many times folks' issues are cleared up through advice in the forum.

no.. the resolution just jumps.. but at least I can listen to it.. gees.. I would never in a million years expect the sound to be screwed up.. its one of the things that I brag about most  when discussing D*.. I just couldn't believe it.. I will have to call them back.. but, if I have to.. I would sacrifice resolution for true stereo , or surround sound..  but on the first unit, even though we have only check marks in 1080i and 1080 p .. the front of the genie, the res button and light, jumps down to 480 p..

We need more information. Is Native set to ON or OFF? Is Dolby Digital set to ON or OFF? What resolutions are checked in Settings? (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p). Are you using a AVR?

Pay attention to pressing the remote buttons. If you press and hold the "Exit" button on the remote it will switch the receiver to SD ( 480p ) mode. Pressing and holding it again will switch it back to HD mode. Maybe that is what is happening ??

Yeah - I should have clarified that.  My point was he isn't stuck with using one of two different possibly faulty receivers he can get a working receiver if the issue isn't able to be resolved via troubleshooting.

Is it hooked directly to the tv or via a switch of some sort. I also assume it's hooked up hdmi?

If you really want help here, you could be more forthcoming with details and answering each question that's been asked.

IS the Genie connected to anything else, such as a DVD recorder?

Many people (myself included) tried to help you. In order to identify your problem we needed more details and asked you to provide them. For the most part you failed to do so as Laxguy stated in post #16. On top of that you walked away from this thread you started. You have a history of stating "NO RIPPING" whenever you post a issue you're experiencing. Ever ask yourself why you need to do that?  :sure:
