No pun intended. But, god forbid they keep a channel that is positive and for family's. The amount of trash on tv is at a all time high. Plenty of other stations that should be gone instead. And INSP is a highly rated channel with plenty of viewers.

From what I read, Inspiration pays to be on Directv, and has declined to continue to pay. Don't blame Directv.

Don't blame Directv.

DIRECTV's statement didn't indicate that DIRECTV didn't cause the situation.  If they blindsided [insert channel name here] with a substantial price increase (or charging where they weren't before), that may tip the blame scale.

For INSP's part, they claim they weren't paying to be carried.

The truth is probably somewhere in between, but we know that bandwidth at 101W is very precious.

"Public Interest" channels pay for retransmission ... the rates are based on the cost of the transponder space. Satellite carriers must make a certain amount of space available at each satellite location for PI channels. If there are not enough channels willing to pay for the space satellite carriers don't have to meet the quota.

The channels must be non-commercial (no advertising except what is allowed on a non-commercial station) and there can only be one from each provider (unless there are not enough providers to buy all available slots).

DirecTV has it right ... they offer channel space for sale to broadcasters such as INSP. INSP has it right that their programming is free. What INSP has failed to mention (or contradict) is that they paid for that satellite space. They think DirecTV should carry them for free.

INSP needs to pay for the satellite space just like they would pay for any other distribution method.

Many of the shows they air are also available on other channels like MavTV, TV Land, WGN America, Hallmark, UP and Encore Westerns.

As for the religious shows they can be seen on numerous local stations, ABC Family in the mornings, NRB, TBN and others.

interesting how on their (INSP) facebook page they are deleting posts if you mention the Directv site and how they have to pay to be on Directv. I saw a couple posts get deleted right after they were posted

First, it was the Weather Channel--a channel that many people feel lost the meaning of being an informative channel. Now, it's the Inspiration Channel, which many of us may not have known except when deselecting it from our favorite list.

I think that is what they want you to believe, but they never said that.

It is their Facebook page and they can delete threads as they want.

Looked like they were carrying more and more 'redundant' programming. And this is an industry wide problem, most channels are moving towards carrying pretty much the same stuff.  How many channels do we need carrying reruns?

Weird the channel survived the Bakkers, but the industry wide homogenization of content looks like it is doing them in.

Pretty much answers the question of "why " they were removed.

DISH dropped it for less than a month. The usual "who caved" debate is never resolved. PI carriage is based on cost of the space not a profit margin. If INSP does not buy the space for their channel DirecTV is just going to sell it to another PI at the same cost ... so DirecTV is not saving channel space by not having INSP. If INSP does not want to pay look for the next PI channel to fill its place.

Does it? It was a question not an answer.

INSP isn't claiming that DirecTV wants them to pay more (at least not on their I WANT INSP website).
