With my second attempt was offered a job as an installer, and training starts in about a month. I've talked to a couple installers in my area and got the impression they're happy with their job. You hear good and bad about everything, for the most part, but I thought I'd ask the in house installers that post here.....how do you like it?

You always hear that fulfillment work isn't the way to go in this industry, and that retail can be the best/better way to go, if you get enough work. I've heard that as far as in house goes, Directv is a pretty good gig, hence why I applied. I live in a very rural area, and have been in the trades for a long time, and that has slowed to a crawl, so I have been doing Exede installs for a little over a year, but the workload is way to low.

I know I have a little bit of a head start, in that there are a lot of parallels with doing Exede, but Directv is more complex, so I have plenty to learn. I'm looking forward to it. I know you don't get rich doing this, and I've heard people say it's harder to make a living in this industry than it used to be, but that's true of a lot of things.

I know I will have a learning curve, and have some long days at the beginning, but I'm hoping that after I get settled in, that I'll be fast enough to get home at a decent time, and earn a decent paycheck. The guy told me that guys just starting out, that aren't real fast, are grossing 600-800 a week, and it goes up from there. That's fine with me, especially driving a company vehicle, and all the benefits you get. My average for Exede installs has been just over 2 a week since I started, so you can see how much that sucks.

Anyway.....just thought I'd see if I could get some feedback from some of you that work in house, just for fun. :)

did you apply for O&O or HSP?

Here’s to the crazy ones.
The misfits. The rebels.
The the troublemakers.
The round pegs in the square holes.

The ones who see things different.
They’re not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status quo.

What does O&O mean?

I applied for the Installation Technician position, under home services, directly for Directv.
