Okay so I was looking at the differences between an Entertainment channel lineup dated back 4/19/12 to the current one. I believe the following are the grandfathered channels to only those with Entertainment Classic (note: I am not guaranteeing this is 100% accurate).

AMC
CNBC World
GSN
ION Television East
ION Television West
LMN
OWN
Travel Channel
Turner Classic Movies (TCM)
TV Guide Network (TVGN)
UP
WE tv

Found a list with a few more. I have the Entertainment Classic package, too.

3NET

Hallmark Movie Channel

If you don't want to lose those channels shown in the above post do not change..its a typical directv switchup .. I repeat you will lose those channels above if you switch from classic..( I know its show the same channels on website but it is BS)

Ha!  I just had the same realization.  Was all set to downgrade to Entertainment, but no AMC.  Now I'll have to wait till Mad Men's over.

So I wanted to add HBO to my Entertainment Package and got a message that I had to change my package in order to make the switch.  I saw that I had Entertainment Classic instead of Entertainment.  I did a quick compare on the packages and did not see any difference so I made the switch to the new Entertainement package and then added HBO.  Then the next day discovered that the chart on the website was wrong and I lost AMC makeing the switch.  So I had to up my package again to Choice in order to get it back.  So I ended up increasing my package by $38.99 ($10 increase to Choice and $18.99 for HBO) in order to watch Game of Thrones and keep AMC.  Nice.

I would think they could fix it within a small window. Actually in sure someone could by it might not be easy. I'm sure if he had called he could have added HBO without changing packages.

This is the way grandfathered packages work...if you want to make a change to add or delete services, you need to go to a current package.

Online yes, but I never had a problem adding or removing HBO via phone when I was on a grandfathered package.

I added the HDextra pack for the three month free trial and went to cancel it before I had to start paying. Was not able to do it online and when I called in I found out I had to switch to a current package. Thought I was getting something for free but ended up paying for it big time over the long run...

Don't fall for their free trials.  I am the account holder, but they contacted my husband to try out a higher package for "free" for 3 months.  Of course, he accepted without asking any questions.  Our next month's bill was $35 more for what was supposed to be a free trial.  When I asked to be switched back to entertainment classic, they said it's a grandfathered plan and couldn't switch me back.  "Regular" entertainment has 13 less channels, and if I wanted those channels, I'd have to subscribe to a higher package.  Luckily I read this thread and told the rep that we made the change less than 30 days ago so she should be able to do it, and of course she was magically able to switch us back.  So we took this as a lesson learned.  When DirecTV is offering "free" anything, there will almost always be a catch.  In this case, I'm sure they were contacting customers who are on grandfathered plans and offering them a package upgrade for free for x amount of months.  Once the customer tries to switch back, they won't be able to and will be forced to accept the current package with less channels or pay for a higher one.

Well I emailed Directv today and they removed the HD extra pack and I'm still on the entertainment classic package.

If you have a grandfathered package you can also remove HD Extra Pack via automated phone system, here are the steps:
First verify your account information with your phone number/account number etc.
Next, when the system asks 'to get started, please tell me the reason for your call today' say "Change Programming," when it says 'can you be more specific?' say "Change Programming" again, then after it lists the first set of options say "more options," then when you hear the option say "DIRECTV HD Extra Pack" and then it will ask 'do you want to add that, cancel it, or get more information?'. say "Cancel it." Wait..... Done.

BTW, If you use the automated system to remove after regular customer service is closed (> 1AM ET) your guaranteed not to be transferred to a CSR.

I noticed that the Hallmark Movie Channel, which used to be available only in the HD extra pack is now available as a part of my entertainment classic package.
