I went to channel 362 and the red button popped up. Local Forecasts are working and the Local Radar is coming soon.

I just tried it and had to put in my zip code.

Now when I hit the red button my local forecast pops right up. I then chose my cities and added my sister's zip and now I have both.

It says local radar coming soon on the left side of the screen.

When you scroll thru My Cities it gave the zip codes as identifiers.

I went back and removed them all and entered them using the City and State option and now they come up with the city and state as identifiers. The home city is just the zip code. I guess you could just add it using the city and state to get the name to come up on the screen.

I recommend you read the link posted by Grafixguy for additional improvements and NEW coming features above what we had with TWC.

Missing features like that was about the only thing I missed from TWC being pulled. Now that DIRECTV and WeatherNation are going to start supplying info like that I don't care if TWC ever comes back.

First time I tuned in this morning, it prompted me to activate it. It was preloaded with my local zip but I had to ok it.

Says radar soon.

Solid start.

Awesome. Now this says a lot about TWC ever coming back.

The overlay is an app, so I guess it is just a matter of time before it is put in the app menu.

I agree with peds. The creation of the app was always the sign to me about the likelhood of TWC coming back. This is a big nail in the coffin.

Yes, it sure seems so. Very good signs. Radar will be the final touch for me.

Now, the sign of having peaked will be hiring actors to stand in inclement weather at every turn.....

I always thought DirecTV and WeatherNation would come up with this feature. Can't wait to see The Weather Channel's response.

I liked WeatherNation when TWC & Dish had a spat for a few days.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. & DENVER, Feb 10, 2014 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- DIRECTV and WeatherNation today announced a slate of new weather services including “Local Weather Now,” a feature that allows customers to access local weather anytime and the first-ever Severe Weather Mix which will provide six channels of interactive weather coverage on one screen during major weather events.

Local Weather Now, a new feature developed in partnership with WeatherNation, offers two ways to access customized local weather information at the zip code level. First, beginning today, customers who are tuned to WeatherNation (channel 362) can press the red button on their remote to access instant local weather conditions and outlook. In addition, later this week, short term and extended weather forecasts by zip code will also be integrated into the live WeatherNation broadcast and run automatically on the channel every 10 minutes.

The new Severe Weather Mix will launch in early March and will be activated during major weather events that are potentially life-threatening. Services on the six-in-one-channel mix will vary depending on circumstances and will include:

“We realize that having instant access to local weather is important to our customers and are proud to partner with WeatherNation on these great new services, which will provide more in-depth local and severe weather coverage than any other TV provider,” said Dan York, DIRECTV Chief Content Officer. “We also look forward to an array of additional new enhancements to WeatherNation on DIRECTV that will be announced in the coming weeks.”

“The Severe Weather Mix and Local Weather Now services will utilize cutting-edge technology, compelling graphics, expert forecasting ability and story-telling skills to quickly and conveniently communicate complex patterns and explain weather phenomena to viewers at home,” said Michael Norton, president of WeatherNation TV, Inc. “We are committed to reliable, consistent, round-the-clock weather information that is meteorologically accurate.”

In early March, WeatherNation will launch the Severe Weather Mix feature that will provide six channels of coverage on one screen during major, life-threatening weather events. The channel will contain a mix of 24/7 regional and local weather information, live remotes from meteorologists, live radar channel, advisories from NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), live coverage from major news networks, and coverage from local broadcast stations being affected or nearby severe weather conditions.

Main question......

Is this a DirecTV project?

Or is this a WN project that will be available to other carriers who wake up and quit drinking the TWCaid?

I applaud Directv and Weathernation for getting the app out as fast as they did. Sounds like Weather channel  is done as far as Directv is concerned.

My guess is that DIRECTV provides the front end and WeatherNation provides the back end. It's probably a joint effort.

I still prefer The Weather Channel over WeatherNation, but as I think TWC needs to be sent a message, I'm glad that DirecTV is working to bring back a weather app of some sort for those that use it.

Of course there will always be people who like one over the other, but I think this is a great move toward making them equal. I have The Weather Channel's app on my iPad and I like it quite a bit. I think the issue has been that they are losing audience and asking for more money at the same time. Mr. White was wise to move in this direction.
