Expander? Do you mean a larger external hard drive so you have more space to record?

yes, to transfer the movies so i can replace the genie. it has a bad caller id modem. thanks.

If your receiver is replaced, you will lose all recordings.  There is no way to transfer recordings from one receiver to another.  Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

And the caller ID issue might be software, not hardware.

If only Caller ID is not working, do you have a standard copper POTS telephone line?

 

Or if it is a VOIP line, then I wouldn't blame the Genie modem too fast.
