You can set the GenieGo it to automatically transcode shows you're recording on your DVRs. It stores those shows in its memory, and allows you to download them to your mobile devices for viewing.

The catch is the shows only stay in the GenieGo memory as long as they're still on the DVR that recorded them. Once you delete them from the DVR, they get deleted from the GenieGo. Shows copied from the GenieGo to your mobile device have a 30-day shelf life, even if they're no longer on your DVR.

GenieGo transcodes a program in 1:1 time.  A one-hour program takes an hour.  However, it downloads in 4-5 minutes depending on your network, wired or wireless.

As Steve said in his post above, programs stay on GenieGo  as long as they're still on your DVR.  However, it is a First-In-First-Out memory system (that the user has no control over) and programs can be 'pushed' out of the GG memory as new programs are transcoded.

But they can be re-transcoded again.  I keep a lot of concerts, movies and documentaries that I like to carry on the iPads.
