Maybe I'm just not a picky as some folks on the forum when it comes to mini client performance. Yes, it would be nice if UI functions performed just as fast as they do locally on a Genie but IMHO that will never happen just due to the nature of a 'client/server' environment with the added overhead of a network between the two boxes.

But there are some folks that make it sound like having a mini client is the worst thing in the world, that performance is just horrible and it's totally unsable. And then there's the group that says that the C31 performance is extremely bad and that the C41W's is just about as bad. So I put together a shot video that has a C31, C41, C41W (all are paired to a HR44-700) and a HR34. On each STB I call up the guide, hold down the scroll down button for awhile, call up the play list, hold the scroll down button again for awhile, select a recording from the playlist, once it starts hit 30skip a few times (not the same amount, sorry), exit the playback, call up the My DIRECTV screen, select a recording from there, start the playback and do some more 30skip's.

What I'd like you to do is identify which video segment belongs to which STB. I'm just curious how many can pick out which one is which, except for the HR34, that one should be easy. The link to YouTube is, .

Thank you creating this video.  I have been wondering about the C-41 client speeds.

I am having a HR44 plus one wired client installed on Saturday and it was nice to see the various guide speeds on the different units.  Looking forward to see which one is which  :)

My current units are a HR-20 and H21.  The H21 is crazy fast but the HR-20 can be a snail at times.

Ok, I will take a shot here but I have to preface that I do not have all of these units.

I would flip 2 and 3.  Other than the HR34, it's all just a guess for me.

Hr 44
Is clearly the first.

The rest lag. But doing what your testing isnt the complaints.
Try channel up down.
Try On demand channel
Try selecting a channel from the Guide thats a sports channel then try and change it right away.

the HR44 is not at play here, just the HR34. the clients are paired to the 44

Yeah I know. :sure:
I rest my case.

Now lets see the 44 alone.

When the Hr 34 looks fast then that tells you flat out the clients are slow.
And if your going to compare clients
Maybe you should have them paired to the Hr 34 since that's what most Directv Genie customer are forced to use up until very recent.

People have complaints about clients so you take the best possible piece of equipment and they are still slower then the HR 34.
I think that says a lot.

Now pair them to HR34 and you Have HR23 response

When the HR34 is actually not hit with another poor software update.

Let me see the clients work when the Genie is unplugged. :smoking:

I never saw any difference between clients [C31 & C41] and which Genie they were paired with.

Gee, all I've heard is how slow the guide is and now it's something else

Since I'm lazy and don't feel like dragging the camcorder out again and moving clients around all I did was your channel up/down complaint. I did a number of channel up/downs and then came up with an average:

- HR44-700 with three mini clients concurrently active. The average channel change time was 3.43 seconds.

- C41W with the HR44 on and two other C41W's concurrently active, so the worst case wireless network load. The average channel change time was 4.41 seconds

- C41 with the HR44 with two C41W's concurently active, so two wireless and one wired mini client. The average channel change time was 4.55 seconds

- C41 with just the HR44 active. The average channel change time was 3.79 seconds

So from that small test best case is that using a mini client adds about .4 seconds to the chanel change time, worst case about 1.2 seconds. Maybe since I usually have only one mini client active at a time, sometimes two, I really haven't had a problem with speed.

For  your complaint #2 I didn't bother since I recently did a double reboot to clear the cache, because of a DoD problem, so it's busy rebuilding things.

For #3, hell that's always been a problem IMHO, that the box gets busy loading the ScoreGuide stuff when you first tune to a sports channel, slowing things down.

I did that on purpose. Since folks love to compare the DIRECTV Genie/DIRECTV Ready (RVU) stuff against the Dish Sling/Joey hardware I didn't want to use a Genie that's been around for awhile (I was an early tester so I know how long the HR34 had been around). That's like the folks that recently switch to Dish and get a Hopper with Sling and say how much faster it is then the HR20 that had at DIRECTV.

Sorry, if you don't like the results I posted post your own.

I've hated and complained about this from "day one" and the best I've heard is to hit the exit button each time it pops up.

No what your hearing is slow response bringing up the Guide , Freezing of the guide.

Very common here.

And I see you still have to reboot for it to function properly.  LOL

I hope your talking about the HR34

Its not that bad on HR24, But 23 and sometimes the 34 Get hung up twice as long.

I agree.

I had a 31 and a 41 for about 2 months.

Both were same .

Felt like I just added 2 HR23s. :bang

At least with the HR34.

Don"t even get me started on the $700 Samsung RVU 32 inch TV I bought.

LOL!

That was still a nice job on the Videos. :righton:

A lot of HR 44 customers will make good use of it in finding what client they want.
