Please use this thread to discuss your feelings about upcoming national HD channels.

This thread will not be as tightly moderated as the rest of the site, but here's the tradeoff...in exchange for being able to rant a bit more, you can be assured that absolutely no one at DIRECTV will be using this thread for reference.

You can ask for all the new HD you want, but DIRECTV's marketing department knows that the 100-150 contributors to this thread are only a small part of the over 20 million U.S subscribers (37+ million world wide).

*Please remember that all forum rules are still in effect.
*Please do not "bump" this thread.
*Other threads that do nothing but anticipate HD channels for which there is no information will be closed.
*This is not a DIRECTV vs. Dish thread, there are other threads for that.

If you have any questions as to what belongs in this thread or an individual channel thread please read the latest DIRECTV Programming Forum Rules (Link).

Since it costs 2.4¢ to produce a penny, my 2¢ worth is really 4.8¢ worth.  That 4.8¢ is my own and not the 4.8¢ of DIRECTV, Dish, or anyone else for that matter.

Starts and ends with the Pac-12 networks for me. But sadly I don't have much faith it'll get done.

Do we really need a new thread? Wouldn't a yearly thread work?

I want everything in HD, but I'm not ancitipating much until D14 is up.

While DIRECTV 14 may yet launch this year (and it isn't looking all that certain), it won't likely be beaming signals to customers until the New Year.

That being said, they've shown some willingness to pack more channels into the space that they have.

There are a lot of channels they could remove for much better programming.  I think if they can't have both SD and HD, it should defer to HD...I'm not sure if you can replace an HD channel in the same space of SD channel, but if you haven't upgraded to HD by now, then maybe that will be the thing that finally gets you to upgrade.  I've had my 1080p set going on 6 years now.

All that being said, I can't think of any channels that I am missing except for some Sports locals (Channels 600-699).  Or better CD Audio channels, which is a very minor request.

SEC Network and Universal Sports are at the top of my list.  Beyond that, WE, Esquire, and Military would be nice to have.

The biggest consumer of SD TV viewing is Nick JR. So in reality I would like to see that quickly. Our local cable company added it in HD (along with Nicktoons HD) but sadly it is encrypted.

Following that, SD channels that still get some viewership are: Oxygen, Fuse, We, Pivot and sometimes (but not too often) MTV2 and Reelz.

If Sprout and Esquire were in HD, I would consider moving up to the next tier that includes those channels.

Anything after that would just be bringing us more goodies, as I haven't really committed to watching other channels since they are SD only. If other channels go HD I would check them out and see what they have to offer.

Universal Sports HD is top of my list.  I keep bugging both Directv and Universal Sports Twitter pages to get it added in HD.  Kind of sad that they keep pushing free trial with ads in the guide about this channel and yet it's still not offered in HD.  Hope to have it by the time FIS Alpine World Cup starts back up in October or I might actually start looking to switch providers :(

Universal Sports has content available in HD on Demand. Since a lot of the stuff they air is on tape delay that might work for you.

One more time: hard news and political junkies would want C-SPAN in HD.  It is really annoying when they film something in a large room, expecting HD to make it viewable, and then it gets cut down to DirecTV's SD Lite.

This is especially true in an era where the so-called "news" stations are just rant-fests and partisan windbags.
