Is there a locked thread to subscribe to for new HD channels like we did with Sixto's report?

You could check the Tips and Resources section and Transponder Maps thread is the first in sticky thread.

Here football games on FOX looks the worst, grainy when showing close up shots and crowd in the stands. maybe because I have it set to 1080i instead of native 720p.

Doctor j (or anyone if you know the answer),

How long does it normally take in the process from a channel being put into testing, to it being added to the lineup?

Thanks,

BH

There is no "normal".  It has been as short as a couple of days and as long as several months.  I think the timing has more to do with when the contract states DirecTV can start broadcasting the channel than it does any actual "testing".

And even DIRECTV's practice of using the early morning hours (typically around 6:00 AM EST) of a Wednesday for launching new channels seems to have even changed lately.

Now it can be on any day during the early morning hours.

Or in the case of my local CW channel in HD, it could be in testing for 2 years!  :nono2:

FOX football in 720p has, IMHO, sucked for years. When I watch a CBS 1080i broadcast on my top-of-the-line set, the CBS broadcast hands down looks far superior.

FAITH: I find the lack of it disturbing.

And some of us who also have great TVs don't see what you see. I see a wide range of PQ on bith 720p and 1080i games. Some of the Fox games on ST are stunningly good. Some espn is awesome. Some is bad. The production and, in the case of networks, local handling cause far more variety than the silly 1080i/720p nonsense.

Well, on my Sammy 67", the TV prior to my current one, FOX NFL games sucked as well.

ESPN games looks good, CBS/NBC also looks good and NFLN also,

FOX looks alright but not the best from the rest

Only looks grainy on close ups and crowd shots,  sort of see it in the field during plays.  Same with FS1

Only during football though as everything else looks fine.

I think it is more a commentary on how popular those two channels are ;)

Oh, I remember this series of threads!  How ya been, folks? :)

Looks like the new bird finally has a pretty firm-ish fly date, within 60 days.  Starting to get relevant again to dream bigger dreams of more HD goodness (within the limits of what's left to dream for!).

Btw, it being Q4 for almost a week now, doesn't the thread title need a little edit?

Soon, like the Swallows returning to Capistrano, we'll be putting the band back together (to mix metaphors) in this thread.

LR(non-CE): HR44, Mits 65C9; Office/FR (CE): HR22-100 + AM21, Mits 60737 + Mits 3DA1 3D adapter. Spare bedroom (non-CE), HR23. Genie WHDVR, wireless networking (yay!)

Yeah my local cable co is adding BBC World HD, WFN HD, Sportsman HD, Outdoor HD, and QVC Plus HD tomorrow. I will only get QVC Plus HD in clear QAM according to their announcement (since I only get them for basic HSI/Phone). But I'm sticking it out with DirecTV because I know it won't be long now really in the grand scheme of things that the new Bird will be able to bring us better picture quality with more HD channels.
