I was told today by retention, that now an HR44 can be requested as a protection plan upgrade if you already have the HR34.
So apparently there now is a path.
I know there never was one , but I guess there is now.

I will let you once I start seeing the work orders.  The “logic” built in in to the system makes this impossible

After getting nothing about a month ago I waited.....and waited

Called back.

Asked about contract end date....Dec 22 2014

Got Sunday ticket Max

Sunday ticket = $240

Max for $25 more

Total $265

Then she said i sounded disappointed. I said last year I got Max free with ST for half off. She said we can't give it free two years in a row, I said bummer.

She said let me see what I can do, I see you've been with us since 9 years to which I told her it is actually since 1999 but I took one year of cable and came right back..

$7 off Starz 12 months (already had Starz) = $96

$15 off 6 months credit = $90

$5 off 12 months credit = $60

NFL SUNDAY TICKET 2014 - Save$5/6moNFL14 = $30

Total $276 but paying $265 = $11 for taking STMax

NO additional commitment so I'll be better set for next year.

I'm happy I waited and waited and waited

She also said I need to call back in january since I will then be available for equipment upgrades (Don't know what, already have Genie and 3R22's a H24 and a HR22

ohhh, just read the post above me....wonder if I could replace my 34 for a 44 ?

I called back in late July and was offered 1/2 off MAX and a one time $25 credit.   This time around was exactly what I has hoping for.  I was offered free ST, $5 off for 24 months along with HBO, Showtime and Max free for three months.  I asked about the Red Zone Channel.  After a few minutes on hold he said I'll waive the $90 upgrade fee.  All this for a one year commitment when I had a few months left in my contract.  We talked college football, NFL and fantasy football for quite a while.

Got stonewalled a couple times this summer and best I could do was 1/2 off Max.

Today I was offered regular ST for free with 1 year commitment. She couldn't do RZ add on so agreed to pay $90 for the upgrade to Max and was offset by $15/mo for 12 months.

oh and offered to credit the first $18 max payment as well

So anyone who tried over the summer and didnt hear what they wanted might want to try again.

The best on Sunday Ticket I could get was Max for 6 payments of $31.99 for $191.94 total.

I also got $20 off for 12 months and $30 off NBA League Pass. It works for me!

I called earlier in the summer and didn't get offered much. Just called back and got 1/2 off for Max 4 payments of $42 or whatever it is.

I also got $5 credit for 6 months, $10 credit for a year and a $40 credit for premium channels for 3 months.

Of course I took it.

Edit: just looked at my bill online and I got a second $10 for 12 months that the guy didn't mention or that I forgot about.

It seems to depend on which rep you get and how you approach things. I called and at the prompt asked for when my contact was ending - which in reality just ended a few days ago. I was very straight forward with the rep saying I was looking to go back to Comcast and told her (nicely of course) that I simply wanted to keep my bill down while keeping the programming I have (Ultimate with Sports Pack). I also asked if there was a way to get NFL Sunday Ticket as well. So she did this for me....

$20 off per month with Ultimate

$10 off advance receiver

$5 off credit Sports Pack

$5 off credit general

She then got me Sunday Ticket for free then she looked and saw I could get Maxx for $50. She then credited me $25 for the first month for being polite so I'm only paying $25 to get Maxx. All this on a one year commit and all these discounts are for the next year. Of course it does help having the basic end protection plan which is probably why I got some pretty good discounts along with being subscribed to MLS Direct Kick.

Using the "contract end date" prompt I got transferred right to Janell in Boise. She was super nice and very helpful. I was pretty sure I was out if contract and she confirmed I am indeed. I'm a Premiere subscriber with MLB/NBA/NFL for over 7 years so I knew I was in a decent position. Here's what she did for me.

$15/mo credit for 15 months

$10/mo credit for 12 months

$20/mo credit for 6 months.

Doing the math that is $465 in credits. ST is $330 for the season. So by my calculations they're paying me $135 to keep Sunday Ticket. Very happy indeed.

Oh and the best part: No new commitment. So I am still eligible to upgrade to an HR44 whenever I can get around to clearing off most of the junk on my HR34 or getting a GenieGo/external HD. Now over to the Connected Home forum to figure that out...

Sent from my iPad using DBSTalk mobile app

Amazing.  I spoke with her last week.  Didn't get the deal you got - but still got a decent deal.

I called DirecTV today, on hold for 20 minutes. The first CSR transferred me to a "NFL specialist" CSR. He offered me ST Max for $31 for 6 months with $15 discount for 12 months. I declined. I was looking for a lower rate to lower my bill from $220 to $150 range. I stated I was a customer since 1997, I've had the Premier package since 2008 and have 5 receivers (3 dvr). He didn't budge. So I cancelled NFL ST and then said I'm dropping Premier and a couple receivers, which I would have done. He transferred me up. Then they hung up on me. :bang I called back and said to the automated voice to cancel service. So the next woman was from retension and was fantastic. She gave me NFL ST for free and a new DVR receiver with a 2 year commitment. I'm not going anywhere. Kept my bill at $140 a month with the Premier and 5 receivers and NFL Sunday Ticket Max. I didn't even tell them one of my local channels NBC (Raycom) dropped DirecTV and is causing major aggravation. Using an antenna for NFL tonight's game.

Got this same deal today after speaking with Alan in Georgia. He had an incredible southern drawl and was very talkative and friendly. We got along like peas and carrots.

Still need to call back and get some monthly bill credits, for some reason he said I would need to speak to programming, as he did not have access to those discounts. I said "cancel Sunday Ticket" at the prompt since I've already been paying on auto-renew.

You were speaking with the Sunday Ticket Save Team then not Customer Retention Group (CRG). I don't think ST Save Team has access to the additional discounts which is why you would have to speak with another CSR.

I just don't understand the wide variety of experiences customers get.  Maybe there is a method to the madness, but I don't get it.

Made my annual call just now. 25 minute hold time, but managed to score a pretty good deal. Considering I'm still under contract through July 2015, received a free genie upgrade last year, and have received free Sunday Ticket Max the previous 2 years. No extended commitment.

Free Sunday Ticket Max

$60 credits months 1-3

$20 credits months 4-6

$10 credits months 7-12

I'll call back after the $40 in monthly credits drop off after the 3rd month and see if I can get some more added.

Just called and spoke with one of the nicest phone reps I have ever spoken to. I spoke with Daniella in Boise. She offered ST Max at 163.96 (Half off). I declined. She then asked if they paid for the first installment, would that be good. So that would be 122.97. I inquired about just getting Redzone for free. After a brief hold, she said that was a go! So I passed on the ST Max for w/first installment paid by them. I am happy with just the Redzone actually. Maybe as the season goes on, I can see about getting the rest for free or much lower rate. But I am more than satisfied.

Agreed. I have followed the thread for this particular topic for more than five years now and it's been a great source of information.  Now obviously, as we have all found out, there are a variety of factors involved with just how good of a "deal" one will get when trying to get free, or a discounted rate on, Sunday Ticket.

With my August bill, I went ahead and paid my first installment on the automatic renewal.  Last Thursday, with September's bill in hand, I called to make my attempt at keeping it again for free as with the past two years.  I have no premium packages, just Total Choice Xtra (or whatever it's called) and have had NFLST every year since 2005.  Last year I got it for free while agreeing to go for a year contract while upgrading to HD, and also received two monthly credits that totaled around $150 for the year.  After just a bit of back and forth clarification and just a small bit of negotiation with the rep (after going with the recommended "Check on contract expiration date" at the beginning)...I was fortunate enough to get Sunday Ticket again for free, with the same monthly credits I rec'd last year.  Just had to agree to another contract for a year.
