I just called today and mentioned "check contract end date" at the prompt.  I was on hold for a few minutes, then talked to a guy that was quite helpful.  I said I called to check my contract end date and see if there were any discounts available on my current bill and/or ST specials.  He asked if I had any gotten any specials on ST before, and I told him I got it for free last year.  Then he went and did his thing and came back and gave me $10 off my current bill for 12 months, and then told me to call back at the end of July or mid August before they will have any ST specials available, and that the discount he gave me today would not impact any ST specials next month, etc.

I had a very similar experience yesterday. No deals at the moment, for me at least, but got the $10 discount for a year. I'm glad to hear that that shouldn't keep me from perhaps getting an ST discount later because I wondered about that after I hung up. I had a small ST discount last year, but nowhere near free.

It wasn't that way last year. My deal price showed up. Did they change something from the way the did it last year?

Called and confirmed. The csr who got me the deal lied or did something wrong. The Sunday Ticket rep said there wasn't any 29.99 deal in their system. She was able to get me the 31.99 deal though so an extra 12 over the season. Oh well. I'm still happy. Instead of 330 I'm paying 175.96 with the credit the original csr gave me apparently for no reason now. 😁

I got ST Max last year for I think around $80 split into 4 payments. I just checked the DTV website to see what I had for programing currently and it shows NFL SUNDAY TICKET 2014 for $0.00 with option to activate ST Max for $18.00 a month over 5 month or a one time $90.00 payment. This seems like a great deal if I am reading it correctly, and I would jump on it if it really is how I am reading it. I have been getting free Redzone by itself for 4 years and went for the ST Max last year after they offered me the deal mentioned above, but never without having to make the retention call.

It seems like they are giving me the deal without even having to go through the phone call hoops. Has anyone here seen this deal on your DTV programing page or have any other thoughts about this? It almost seems to good to be true.

You'll still need to call -- for everyone who had it last year, they put this year's on the statement with the $0.00 price as a reminder for a couple months before they actually start to charge. If you do nothing, you'll be charged the full renewal price.

This just made me relize that i have not been seeing the "sunday ticket $0.00" line on my bill so i called to see if and when i would be billed for auto renewal. Turns out somehow it got removed from last season so the CSR added ST Max with a offer of $40 for 4 months. and gave me $10 a month for 6mo for my "troubles".

Thanks for the heads up, it's my first year paying for anything (4 years of free Redzone). I have never had the recurring subscription appear.  I will make the call and see what they will do for me in July because that is when I called last year for my freebies and several of my credits run out that month.

Is there really a different way to get to a Retention person then doing the "cancel" thing on the phone tree now?

Earlier in the thread some people were saying they were calling to inquire about when their commitment was up (or something like that). I'd be surprised if saying "cancel" still works. It stopped working for me last year about this time.

"Cancel service" works for me every time. Then when asked if it's because I'm moving I always say no. Presto! Retention CSR.

Good to hear "Cancel" works again. Last year, I simply had to ask to speak with retention when the first level csrs had basically nothing to offer.

I checked my account and I'm being billed properly now. It shows as $39.99 like before but now a $8 credit for 6 months shows up. Wish my original deal worked but meh. It's only $12.

Not to sway off-topic, but the description states that it's a leased receiver.  Refurb?  Also, do you have a SWM capable of hooking it up?

Dish Buys looks odd. They only sell three types of DirecTV units and nothing else. Very strange.

Following the lead from several others who've posted here, I said "Check contract end date" at the prompt which took me immediately to Mike in Retention who said I was on a month-to-month contract. I tried to be pleasant and asked "About any Sunday Ticket offers I could take advantage of"...cutting to the chase I got Sunday Ticket and ST Max for $40.99 x 4 months; $163.96 total. Plus $20 in credits for 12 months and, because I'm the only D* customer paying full price for Showtime, $5 in credits for 6 months.

I mentioned to Mike that I called the 800 number about the free Genie and said I received a recording saying "This number is no longer associated with any current promotion". He gave me the Genie free and I will have to pay the $3 per month whole house DVR charge. I did have to extent my contract for another 2 years; and I did it gladly. My gracious thanks to all who've posted their experiences in this thread.

Note - year before last I got ST/Max completely free with some credits too (and had to extend my contract 2 years); last year I paid full price for ST and got Max free.

Just called and said "Check Contract End Date." I was immediately transferred to a very friendly CSR who got me a good deal for NFLST Max (though I can't be sure if he was with retention). Offered me half off Max at $163.93 and then, with my prompting, found a credit for $10 for 12 months and $5 off HBO for 6 months (which is a savings for me since I would be keeping HBO anyway and simply paying more for it). All together, that gives me MAX for $10.93 which I'm quite happy with. Though I am a bit concerned that the first of four charges for NFLST Max has already appeared under my "Recent Activity" without any trace of the credits. Does anyone know if that's normal for it to take a while for the credits to appear there? In the past I think I've seen both charges and credits appear instantly.

One down side of the conversation: he said my $10 HD credit for autopay is going away after this month. I may have to call in later in the summer about that and see what can be done.

P.S.: It took a couple of hours but those credits finally showed up in "Recent Activity."

I called a few weeks ago to cancel my 3 months free of HBO. Monday I received a call from Directv's Customer Relations dept. They asked if there was anything I needed, program or equipment wise. I told them I was happy with out current programming and equipment. They asked if there was anything they could do to make my experience with Driectv better. I responded, "A discount of Sunday ticket would be nice."

The CSR responded, "Well, I see you are already receiving Sunday Ticket at no charge." I told him, I think that is just the $0.00 charge to let me know that they are going to start billing again. He told me "No, you are receiving it at no cost." I really didn't feel like arguing. So the guy says, "Well, I can give you $20 off your bill for the next 12 months." So I agreed, just had to agree to keep Directv for another 12 months.

Is Red Zone without ST possible now?

Many folks in the past have had good luck receiving it for the season in the past, definitely one of those YMMV offers. Usually an offer Customer Retention Group (CRG) has access to and can apply to your account if your eligible etc.

Couple of past threads with others experiences:

List of networks with HD VOD content available on DIRECTV  DIRECTV Customer Service Live Online Chat (available from 7am-12:30am ET)  DIRECTV Regional Sports Network (RSN) fee lookup tool (zip code required)
