Apparently I have a slimline 5 dish installed in conjunction with a swm8 switch. Recently one of two hr24 receivers took a dump and in hooking up the replacement receiver I took a look at the sat setup on the existing receiver and noticed its in an error state. Everything has been working fine from my perspective, but I'm unhappy with it not passing the sat setup and was hoping for some advice on that.

I moved the equipment from our home when we moved last January and had a local installer install just the dish. I mention this only because he seemed unfamiliar and definitely unsure the setup would even work, leaving me completely unconfident in the work done. But, as I said, been working just fine. Here is the error shown on the screen in the sat setup interface (attached file hopefully works).

Anyone have an idea what could be the cause? The first thought I had was if possibly the switch requires specific assignment of dish to the sat inputs and the installer got them wrong? Appreciate any ideas or troubleshooting advice. Or am I better of ignoring as it is working (this isn't in my nature, but with appropriate counseling perhaps I can gate past it).

Thanks in advance!

Install Status Screen:

                 99. 101. 103. 110.  119

  odd(13v)  x.    ok.     x.             x

even(18v)  x.    ok.     x.             x

("ok" is actually a check mark, at 110 the box is just empty)

all that means(since your system is apparently working) that your satellite signal levels are not up to DirecTV specifications.  you can "continue: with the set up process, but a dish realignment is highly recommended.

This system was created to prevent shoddy installers to do a half *** job when installing in customers homes.

Please post back with your signal readings for each satellite's transponders (and both tuners if applicable).  You'll find these readings under "Menu" -> "Setup" -> "System Setup" -> Satellite -> "View Signal Strength".  Note the "+" and "-" symbols next to the "Satellite" and "Tuner" entries where you can toggle the readings between the various satellites and both DVR tuners.

Fill in your readings for each satellite and tuner using these examples.  A properly aligned dish will show 80-90s on most of the relevant transponders (although some will be low or zero):

Satellite transponders (32 total at 101º)

Satellite transponders (3 total at 110º)

Will do. Working nights will post Friday. I recall looking at signal strength and they were good but didn't check different satellites.

If you do not have any trees or building blocking your signals you need a realignment to make those red Xs go away.

The system will run like it is set now.

The only thing that will happen is that it will get the dreaded "rain fade" a little bit quicker than if it was aligned to it's best.

If it were mine I would forget about the red Xs and just watch it.

If you repeat satellite set up, are you still getting Red Xs on all satellites still?  now sure why with those numbers you would get red Xs across the board.  I can see one or two polarities getting a red X, but not all six.

I just ran the sat setup and it went through without showing that screen at all? Shouldn't it have displayed a successful list with check marks? In any event. I guess it seems ok. So what's the explanation? Its overcast right now and signal is fine. I guess nothing to worry about but I'm curious none the less. Thanks guys!!

No, no screen with check marks are shown if all tests passed.  The screen only comes with a fail test.

But that was my thinking, with those readings I was surprised you were getting any failures.  although you will benefit from a little dish tweaking, you are not far off
