http://tvpredictions.com/tv053014.htm This says Newsmax won't be in HD on DirecTV. We'll see if Dish follows.

I'd pay for a news channel like we saw on HBO "The Newsroom".

Interesting, FNC viewers are also the most uninformed viewers regarding this. The study found of the Americans who trust Fox News to give them the most accurate information about politics and current events, just 12 percent correctly believe that deportations have increased under the Obama administration, said the study, which measured cultural attitudes toward immigration in 2014. As a whole, 25 percent of Americans correctly said deportations have risen.

Unfortunately the LA Times says those deportation figures are "cooked".

http://www.latimes.c...ory.html#page=1

It seems that in order to make it look like deportations are up, the government now counts catch-and-release (individuals refused entry at the border) as deportations.  Actual deportations away from the border are down by 1/3.

Friendly on-topic reminder...  this is not a deportation or general news/politics thread. Politics is a forbidden topic.  Also, no talk of circumventing regional blocks or otherwise illegal signal theft.  Thanks!

It is an interesting concept ... with numerous threads about channels converting to individual digital feeds here we have another channel that sees the importance of mass distribution via satellite and cable. Getting your content out to the most homes possible, ready to watch alongside hundreds of other channels, remains important.

If you like a huge choice of free news channels worldwide, get a Roku. It is amazing how many services stream for free.

So it's on a former infomercial channel  and SD only.   The good news is one less infomercial channel (unless Newsmax fills their 24 hrs. with the same)

I wonder what package it's going to be in after the preview?

Is it a preview? It replaced infomercial channels on both Dish and DirecTV (where it took the transponder slot of an infomercial channel that was on channel 321). It might be a pay to play deal where they're paying to be on the lineup so it will be in every package.

So....the real question is...

Is this to be a "Cinemax-esqe" version of the news? ("renamed NEWSX")

Naked News? anyone? :biggthump hahaha

If not...then I couldn't possibly care less...

It is pay to play on both platforms, unlike Beck's Blaze TV, which is using the traditional pay-us-for-content method.  Newsmax get every subscriber as potential viewers at a price, but needs ad revenue to pay the bill.  Beck gets paid for a small subset of those same subs, betting that the revenue from those subs will partially offset costs. It'll be interesting to see who fares better.

Keep in mind, some of us in the sticks can't get screaming fast internet. Mine tops out at about 1 Meg download via a 2GHz wireless system, and out here I'm lucky to get that. Not the best for streaming video, but beats dialup.

I would LOVE to get BBC WORLD on Dish.

CNN International would be great too.

I hear ya. I had the same thing for years as I live out of town. But fortunately Charter Cable decided to run high speed out here. Other than satellite, that was my only choice. DSL still is not available here.

They're paying to be aired now, but later they'll want money like everyone else, once the contract expires.

That only works if enough people miss them when they are gone. I believe INSP tried that tact ... paid as a PI for carriage then decided to stop paying and charge. It didn't work out as well as they wanted (back to paying).

You never know what the future will bring in terms of popularity level,  It could surpass Fox News,  though I doubt that will happen.
