My HR22 receiver has died after many years.  It doesn't get past the receiver self check and there is no sound coming from the receiver such as hard drive or fan.   D* is sending me a replacement and told me to discard the HR22 as they will not be requesting that to be returned as it has reached end of life.  So that leads me to think that I will get either a HR23 or HR24 for replacement assuming the HR23 is still actively being distributed.   Hopefully it will be the HR24 since I have the whole home set up.

Hopefully there were no recordings on the HR22 that you wanted to save.

I hate to burst your bubble, but I recently had an HR20 go bad, and I got 2 HR21s that didn't work correctly in exchange.  One of those they wanted back, and one they didn't.  After a lot of haggling with them, I finally buying myself an HR24 for which D* eventually gave me a credit for half of my purchase price.  And I have the protection plan.

Can't get better than that, unless it's a brand new one.

I'd hold on to the 22 for a month or two just in case a return box shows up.

Both good ideas. I had the same thought to hold on to it for a short time.
