hi, I found a vip612 receiver at the swapmeet for 15 bucks. Is it possible to convert it into FTA.

What is pretty cool about it, is that its dual tuner, record one show while watching another channel.

It is a DISH Network only receiver and cannot be converted.
Welcome to DBS Talk - Let's talk about DBS! (The Digital Bit Stream)
DISH Network vs DirecTV: HD Channel List - DISH Network HD Capacity, HD Conversion and more.
DISH Network complete channel lists and lists by satellite location are in The Uplink Activity Center.
Unless otherwise noted, I speak for myself. Content is not controlled by DISH Network, DirecTV or any other company.

If it is working and not attached to someones account or leased property belonging to DISH it will probably sell for more than $15.  You can call DISH to find out the status of the receiver there is a R00 # on the back of the receiver that will identify it for DISH.
