New York Times, July 17, 2014 | MOSCOW — A Malaysia Airlines flight with nearly 300 people aboard crashed over eastern Ukraine near the Russian border on Thursday, the Ukraine government and a regional European aviation official reported, and the Interfax news agency said it had been shot down.

Ukraine’s president, Petro O. Poroschenko, said in a statement that he was calling for an immediate investigation of the crashed flight, a Boeing 777. He did not rule out that it might have been shot down.

It might be a little early but authorities should shut down the airspace over the Ukraine.

Hmmmm. Is this going to be used by politicians as the 2014 equivalent of The Maine (the Spanish-American War) or The Lusitania (U.S. entry into WWI)?

It might be a little early late but authorities should shut down the airspace over the Ukraine.

According to reports, the US and UK authorities had previously shut down the

airspace over Eastern Ukraine for their respective military and civilian aircraft

due to the ongoing conflict in the area.

It looks like other planes, whether organized by their home governments or not, are now staying away. Not a bad idea when someone is apparently shooting down planes.

I'm watching distant video of the crash and hearing a pundit claim it was not shot down ... the less we know the more they talk.

Hmmmm. Is this going to be used by politicians as the 2014 equivalent of The Maine (the Spanish-American War) or The Lusitania (U.S. entry into WWI)?

Consider the Israeli ground invasion, the China Sea conflict and the expansion of the Japanese military, the various African conflicts and the Russian interest in reactivating the Cuban Cold War listening post.

The original no fly zone started a few months ago was further south over Crimea. Apparently there was less concern about flights over the rest of the Ukraine. Now the risk is better known.

Only three planes reported over the Ukraine airspace at the moment.

We clearly need a visit from Klaatu.

Render ALL military weapons and vehicles inert worldwide.

I'm sorry to have to admit that, what with the allegations that the overthrow of the elected government of Ukraine that we supported has no legitimacy under international law, and since I don't even know which side is running Crimea, I don't even know which side of any engagement there that occurs that we are on.  And I'm not sure who's who in Iraq anymore, either.

There's a woman that lost a brother and sister-in-law on MH370, now a stepdaughter on MH17.

That's almost as bad as the man who got bombed in Hiroshima and travelled home to Nagasaki. He survived and lived until 2010.

Perhaps she and anyone she knows ought to stay off Malaysian Airlines planes from now on.

Some people might say that the probability of three Malaysian going down in a row is astronomical so it might make them the safest.
