Is it possible to do this? I.e. if I'm recording 5 things, and a mini tries to watch TV, it'll tell it no tuners available and ask it to cancel a recording...right? Is there a way to allow the mini to watch one of the recording programs or something else that's recorded, but not allow it to cancel a recording and watch live TV?

Other than tell the person not to cancel a recording no. They can watch anything recording or chose something else that has been recorded.

Maybe. but it impacts all other devices in the MRV. Try this

Go to Settings, Whole-home, Share Playlist and then change Allow Deletions From: to This Room Only.

Just have them press the List button and choose a recording from the list and Press Play.

this does NOT apply to minis.

AFAIK, The recording must be cancelled from the "room" that made the recording

This doesn't seem to be the case...I just set up 5 recordings from the genie and went to one of the minis, and it allows me to cancel...

Then there is not much you can do short of getting another type of receiver.
