I have a Hr20-700 that is having pixelation issues on certain channesl, most notable ABC.  I get the 771 error periodically.  I do not get this on all stations and am trying to figure out what the issue is.

I ran a system test and it says I have dish alignment issues.  I have 5 other dvr's in the house that do not have this issue and do not give this error message.

I ran the signal strength on each tuner and each satellite to help narrow down the issues.

I aprpeciate your help with this.  Thanks.

Jim

Those readings on the HD satellites (99 and 103º) are marginal.  How do they compare with the readings on your "good" HD DVRs?  What models are the good DVRs?

HD DVRs: HR34-700; HR24-500; (2) HR20-700 + WD eSATA 1TB drive/Antec MX1 case; HR21-700; HR21-200 w/AM21
Receivers: H25-500 HD Receiver; H21-100 HD Receiver
Mobile Devices: Nomad

I have 2 HR 23, 2 HR 24 and an HR 34.  When i ran the numbers on the HR 34, they didnt look that much better than the unit with the issue.  Appreciate your advice.

Your dish is out of alignment.  Best to call DirecTV® and set up a service visit to have them come and re-peak your dish, free with protection plan, otherwise $50.00

Agree with peds48.  The HR20 may just be a bit less "forgiving" with those marginal signal.  Your dish needs proper alignment.

Jim. I have the same issue with one of my hr20-700. a direct tv guy came out and indicated the issue like said above was a box that is unforgiving to signal strength. My dish was not out of alignment. Steve

In this case, it is a dish alignment issues as evidenced by the posted signal readings

No receiver can be "unforgiving to signal strength" unless it is faulty. Post back showing all your signal strengths as per the original poster.

Well, that was short lived.  I started receiving the 771 errors on the same HR 20 that I was having issues with before.  I looked at the signal strength and most are in the 90's except for 99s which is all 0 and 103s which is all over the place.  Some 0, some 90's, other 30's and 40's.

Any ideas why this is popping up again?  Thanks.

Jim

Can you swap out this receiver with another receiver you have and see if the problem stays with the receiver or stays in that room ?

99s and 103s carry only spotbeams directed at individual cities, so low or even zero signals on most transponders are quite normal.

I started getting these issues recently in the DFW area.  Never had any allignment issues previously and it seems like just the locals are affected and on all receivers.  It first happened on Thursday night football and I saw it again a few times on Sunday night football last night.  Was considering calling, but this may be a universal outage.  The issue typically doesn't last long.

Here in DFW I've seen some occasional 771s over the last few days also. They don't last long enough for me to check signal strength.
