HD DVR and HD receiver in RV

Currently have HD DVR and HD receiver in my RV at a permanent site in Pa. Can both receivers remain in RV over the winter? There will be no heat or power going to RV at this time. Will allow to warm to room temperature in May when they will be taken off "vacation mode" and re-activated. Will cold temperature damage the units?

I called DTV and they said it will be ok to do so, and if they are damaged the Protection Plan will cover it.

 

Any advice?

They will be fine, will probably have a 722 "service expired" message when used again since they will lose authorization from setting, but you can resend authorization online or call directv and tell the automated system you have a 722 message. It will resend authorization and they will be back up in a matter of a few minutes. Temp shouldn't be and issue, I have had my tailgating receiver in below freezing condition out in the snow and its been fine. :-)

The non-operating temperature range of a hard drive is usually between -40F and 160F.

The operating temperature typically ranges between 32F and 140F.

If you have desiccant (like Dri-Z-Air), it would probably help as would keeping them some place that the temperature doesn't swing violently over the period of a day.

You also need to be wary of any LCD displays on clocks, Active 3D glasses or TVs when the temperature gets much below freezing.

Sharp recommends that the storage temperature of a TV not get below -4F nor above 140F.

FWIW, the receivers and DVRs sits in techs’s truck sometimes for weeks without any obvious damage.


Here’s to the crazy ones.
The misfits. The rebels.
The the troublemakers.
The round pegs in the square holes.

The ones who see things different.
They’re not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status quo.

I had to laugh about the "obvious" qualifier. The non-obvious damage is perhaps the most troublesome.

Glad I gave you a good laugh.  However the fact that customers don’t call back with equipment issues pretty much makes this a moot point, doesn’t it?

 

Dish receivers are pretty much in the same boat (truck) so...
