StarBand and BASF Agricultural Products North America, a manufacturer of crop protection chemicals, said they will offer high-speed Internet access to U.S. crop and livestock producers nationwide through agricultural retailers and distributors.

The program, part of BASF's recent launch of Harvest Partners Network (HPN) to agricultural retailers and distributors, is intended to extend services to include StarBand always-on satellite Internet service to the producer community.

StarBand's high-speed Internet service will provide HPN subscribers access to a customized producer portal providing in-depth market, weather, news and agronomy information. Current plans target deployment of at least 40,000 StarBand units through Harvest Partners Network retailers over three years.

The announcement is the start of the planned second phase of BASF's Harvest Partners Network initiative. Phase one will provide commercial-grade service to agricultural distributors and retailers.

Phase two plans will allow the deployment of StarBand's award-winning consumer service to the nation's producer community, through local agricultural retailers, giving them unprecedented high-speed Internet access and online access to market, weather and news information.
