WWF Back on DirecTV

DirecTV will resume carriage of World Wrestling Federation Entertainment's live pay-per-view events, the DBS provider said Tuesday.

Carriage resumes Sunday, Feb. 17, with the "No Way Out" event. DirecTV customers also can order the popular WrestleMania event on Sunday, March 17. In addition to offering pay-per-view events, DirecTV also will air the "Fanatic Series," beginning in March, with the world premiere of "Before They Were Superstars."

During the fall, World Wrestling Federation pulled its events from DirecTV after the two companies couldn't reach terms on a new licensing deal.

"We are extremely pleased to have worked out an arrangement with DirecTV to bring our action-packed pay-per-view events to DirecTV customers and World Wrestling Federation fans," said Linda McMahon, CEO of World Wrestling Federation. "DirecTV is an important distributor of PPV programming, and we're glad to be back."

There is a catch. The agreement is good only until after Wrestlemania. This means that there could be a good chance that after Wrestlemania, DirecTV could once again find itself without authorization to carry WWFE PPV's. I did hear that Dish and WWFE have recently agreed to a long term arrangement to carry WWFE PPVs.
