Since the new HD DVR is not out yet, no one knows for sure.
However, based on the R15 SD DVR compared to the R10 (TiVo), the most significant differences that people have complained about are:

(1) Only has a single live buffer instead of 2 (it does have 2 tuners, but only 1 live buffer)

(2) No 30 second skip

(3) Different look and feel - menus are different, remote is different, etc.

Item (1) may be corrected/added to the feature set. There are rumors that D* is going to put dual buffers in, but no one knows for sure yet.

Item (2) isn't going to happen.

Item (3) will almost certainly be the same as the current receivers (D11) and DVR (R15) so that the look and feel and remote are standard across DirecTV equipment.

And that is all speculation. Someone else may have a much clearer crystal ball than I have.
