Once I get my dish installed and service activated next week, can I modify the DVR and install a bigger hard disk, or am I not allowed to do that? In other words, do I own the DVR giving me the right to do whatever I want with it, or is DTV leasing it to me?

As long as you purchase before March 1st you own the equipment after 3/1/06 it should be all leased equipment.

However, there is currently no known way to upgrade the hard drive in the R15. It is possible to upgrade the drive in the R10.

also note if any rcvr is modified in any way, shape, or form, D* has the right to refuse any rplcmt options.

In other words if it dies you have to buy a new one.
