I am assuming since I won't get my rebate if I don't return it, that it will then belong to me.

Is that bad thinking?

If you agreed to return the receiver as part of your verbal contract and decided that you now don't want to, then yes, you're doing something wrong. If you have had a change of heart, you should call and tell them as much.

If you fail to live up to your end of the contract now, they may not extend a similar offer to you in the future.

Also depends on whether you owned it before or leased it. If you were leasing it before, then it still isn't yours now.

If you owned it before, then you still own the 942 now... but you might want to call Dish and let them know you decided not to swap for the rebate.
