I wish to cancel my DirecTv service. I am still in a 2 yr contract after acquiring a DirecTV Tivo last christmas and getting the rebate. Before I did this I spoke to their customer service to be sure that I could get out of the contract without having to pay a penalty by returning all my equipment. They assured me this was the case. this week I called them to get the details about what I had to send back and how to package it. I was told that I would not be able to cancel without paying a penalty and that they had no use for my equipment.

What gives? Can anyone help me? I really want to terminate my contract. I do not mind sending everything that they want back but I do not think that I should have to pay any penalty other than shipping charges.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Miguel

Call and tell them you are going to be out of your house for several months...any reason will do. They will put your account into suspention up to 9 months. Before the end of the 9 months, call and say you are still not able to use the service for several months....the time on the commitment will expire Dec 07 whether or not your account is in suspension, hint hint.

When you started your commitment you signed a contract and you were supposed to be given a copy of that contract. Read it and see what the terms were they apply to both you and Directv. If the contract says you can return the equipment with no penalty then you can return the equipment.
