How does the HR20 get the channel information when the zipcode is entered?

Inside the "data stream", there is the equivalence of a table.
So that "pause" you get after entering in the Zip code. Is the HR20 waiting for your entered zip code to be found in the data stream.

That "table" comes from Tribune Media Services

Assuming you are referring to OTA setup, the database of OTA guide data includes a cross reference of zip codes against what they "think you should get" list. I get listings for a few channels that the other side of Salt Lake City can get, but I can not due to mountains, so the list isn't perfect--but errs on the side of "what someone might get".

Cheers,
Tom

So the HR20 doesn't upload anything to the Sat?

No... that dish on the side of your house, doesn't have enough power to send anything back up the sat stream.

Nope. For that you'd need a FCC approved transmitter at your house. another approach could be via phone line, but clearly that isn't happening given the timeliness of the setup.

Tom
