I've had the vip211 for about 3 months now and about 6 times already, at random times, all of the OTA locals I have programmed won't be able to lock on the OTA signal. When I tune to one of the OTA channels I've programmed, I'll receive something like attempting to lock signal, but it doesn't. I've waited an hour once and still get the same screen message on all the OTA channels. The way out of this is to simply unplug the 211 or hold the power button in for about 7 seconds to reboot the receiver....after which, all the locals tune just fine. A few key points....

- All of my locals have a signal strength in the 90's, most in the high 90's.

- This problem occurs to ALL my OTA local channels at once....not just a few in a given time.

- This is a random problem....there's appears to be no reason why it happens (ie weather, etc).

- Besides this problem, the OTA locals come in great....no drop outs, breakups, etc.

- I had the 211 rescan to add the locals again a few weeks ago....about a week later, the problem occurred again.

- 211 is running the latest software update

Any ideas? I'm hoping this is not a 'feature' of the 211? ;)

I've seen it with mine as well.

It could be losing signal, maybe a bad fitting could be the culprit, or critters nibling on RG 6, could be anything. I would check connections first, and make sure moisture is not getting inside the fittings, etc.

This just happened to me for the first time thur. night during the NCAA. All digital locals gone. I split my antenna to the TV - and it was working fine. Unfortuneately, my TV does not decipher the CBS digital channel, so I was stuck w/o hi-def for the basketball games that night.

Fri. morning after the nightly re-boot - everything was back to normal.

Definitely not an animal/moisture issue. I have an indoor antenna and all connections are solid. The fact I'm getting such a string signal on all of my OTA stations and all channels drop at once at random times, and can be fixed by a reboot, to me points to something in the hardware/software. Also, others on this thread are reporting a similar problem.

I signed up for this forum just so I could post to this thread. I've been having fits with this same issue! Crapped out around the time of the SuperBowl even! I thought I just had a cheap antenna, so I've been searching all over town and on the web for a new antenna. Now that I see there are others with this issue, I'll try the reset trick. Thanks!
