Just a few short months ago at CES in Las Vegas, DIRECTV unveiled plans to launch
its new video-on-demand service worthy of giving its cable competition a run for their
money. The company says it will begin testing its VOD service this month, and it will
include high-def movies.
According to reports, DIRECTV plans to roll out the on-demand service as early as
July after the first stage of testing this month. The VOD application will use a broad-
band connection into the company's new high-def DVRs.
The company has hinted that it has signed deals with about a dozen networks to
participate with on-demand channels. DIRECTV aslo said the service will include
near 2,000 movies, many of which will be in HD.
