No, I’m serious. I enjoy entertainment that pushes the envelope for shock value. Sorry, but I Love Lucy and Disney movies (although great undertones) just don’t do it for me. Words aren’t bad, some actions are bad, but I do not understand how words hurt. Every time I say the F word do you feel a sharp pain in your side? The whole idea of bad words in just ridiculous, if you look up the history on how profane words became profane, it really is quite comical. South Park, The Shield, NYPD Blue, all shows that are enjoyed by millions and very successful, so no it’s not that uncommon for people to enjoy edgier content.
As for porn, don’t watch it much. Anyone who visits porn sites or downloads porn online is an idiot. I have never had a virus or spyware on my computers and I plan to keep it that way. And I’m not paying $30 for one channel of TEN. I’m like most normal guys, a late night Skinamax at 1 in the morning every once in a while.
Some people can’t draw the line between TV and reality, and that’s exactly what’s going on here. So what, I sweat a lot, enjoy the occasional skin flick and watch South Park, play Grand Theft Auto and rock out to some of the most satanic metal around from bands like Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus and Satanic Slaughter does that make me a bad guy? If you think yes, I really don’t care. But I also used to volunteer at Meals on Wheels, in an annual local Kids Escaping Drugs event, I raise $400-$600 and I attend church services every week. Never been arrested, never had any contact with the authorities except for a few Health/Safety workshops I took in high school, never smoked, snuffed, ingested, injected or inhaled anything illicit in my life.
You can keep on eye out on Dr. Phill or Dateline stings but you'll never see my goofy mug on TV, but you can see it here.
Here's the real deal. A few f-bombs here and there? Go use that language in front of your company's CEO and you'll be out the door before you know it. It's considered pretty offensive and most people feel pretty uncomfortable around people who use it. While you may find it comical, most people are pretty offended by it. It's the quickest way to break up a conversation. I've been in many conversations where somebody comes over and curses. As soon as that person leaves, eyes roll and I've heard many people say "what's wrong with that guy?". I can't tell you how many times I've heard that. If I had a dollar for each time, I could retire today.
Each time you push the envelope and desire that rush from being on the edge, you have to go a little farther to get that edge. Before you know it, you're over the cliff.
As far as the "once in a while" porn, that's not normal. Because of my job, I've had to live in seven different states. I can honestly say that I've had lots of friends all around the country and I don't know any who have ever rented porn or stayed up at 1 to watch Skinamax. In fact, I had never heard of it until it was listed in this blog. It's not normal to watch these things. It really corrupts your mind. Most of the guys who end up getting busted for these really weird porn things (like the cop last week who got arrested for using his cell phone to look up skirts) start out watching the late-night porn. It's very, very degrading to women (which includes all of our mothers, sisters, and daughters). If you find a girl you like, share about watching porn. You'll be dropped faster than a hot potato.
Don't kid yourself. Most, if not all, of these weirdos thought that they knew when to stop and found out they couldn't. It's the same way that alcoholism and gambling creeps into your system. It's an evil that sneaks up on you.
Many of those same people that are arrested for the real perverted crimes also did many of the same things you did. They were involved in church groups, helping others, etc. But the brainwashing that took place with the porn also got to them.
Going to church every week yet watching porn and listening to satanic metal just don't add up. Heck, the BTK killer from Wichita, KS was a boyscout leader and a leader in his church. I'm not sure which church or what type you go to, but even Satan himself knew the Bible, better than we do. In Matthew 4, he tempts Jesus while He's in the desert, using scripture to try to tempt Jesus.
I'm not trying to come across as a holier-than-thou person because I have sin in my life every day. I'm just trying to show you why these things are not considered normal and why they're really unacceptable to most people.
